Day trip about 1 1/2 hours from Colorado Springs - up and over the mountains - sort of on the back side of Pikes Peak. The Mollie Kathleen Mine is a working mine today but they also have a fascinating 1 hour tour down 1,000 ft into the mine. They bundle you up in heavy jackets before descending the elevator cage into the mine shaft. Going down the 1,000 feet was OK but walking and standing after we got down there was difficult for us - but well worth it!  Afterwards, we took it easy with a ride on the Victor narrow guage Railroad through the minning country.  Lots of mines, lots of holes!
