Richard Drewry 1762-1850 was born in Southampton Co. Virginia, served in the Rev War, married Nancy Harwood of Sussex Co., VA, in 1799 left VA, bought land in the Nashville area of Tennessee, Nancy died there and in 1816 he married his son's Mother-in-law, Jemima Williamson Adams, widow of Benjamin Adams. The family moved to the newly opened "West" TN abt. 1824. In 1829 he bought a tract of land from Adam Huntsman, the peg legged attorney who beat Davy Crockett for Congressional seat in 1835, and Davy left for Texas and the Alamo. It later surveyed out to over 700 acres. Richard's land was in Gibson County, TN until the big land swap of 1837, putting it in Weakley Co. TN. Richard never got a land grant for his service in the Rev War, as he was short a few days to qualify, but his widow, Jemima Adams Drewry, did get a small land grant after his death, when the law was changed to 14 days service in Rev War.This land grant was not in Weakley County.
