William
Dye was born on July 6, 1718 in Staten Island, Richmond Co., NY. He was the son
of John Lawrence Dye & Anna Moore

March 8, 1751. According to a bio of one of his descendants: "William Dye,
was a soldier under the command of George Washington in the Revolutionary War

The Children of William Dye & Margaret Salter Anderson
Rebecca Dye | Rebecca Dye was born on July 27, 1738, probably in
Middlesex Co., NJ. Rebecca married William Jewell about 1756 and they
had at least 5 sons. William died on September 16, 1775 in Cranbury, Middlesex
Co., NJ. I have not found any documentation that Rebecca married after William's
death, although she survived him by 38 years so it is possible. I have not found
her listed as head of household on any early New Jersey records at this time.
Rebecca is listed as an heir in her father's will on September 4, 1784, and she
inherited 35 pounds. Rebecca Dye Jewell died on March 1, 1813, probably in
New Jersey although at least one of her sons emigrated to New York. Notes for Rebecca Dye Jewell | |

January 24, 1762 in New Jersey and they had 8 children. William is listed as an
heir in his father's will on September 4, 1784, and he inherited 30 pounds. The
family emigrated from Middlesex Co., New Jersey to Mason Co., Kentucky sometime
between 1788 to 1793 with the Shotwell, Morris, Stout, Drake, Arms & Cahill
families. William's brothers John & Kenneth also emigrated to Kentucky. William
Dye purchased 300 acres of land in Mason Co., KY on May 3, 1793. (Deed book A,
page 277, the spelling is William Die). In a book of memoirs written by Daniel
Drake, he recounts visits to "Old Billy Dye's" house, which he says
was "one of the fashionable places of resort for the young people of the
neighborhood." The account by Dr. Drake is uncomplimentary, stating that
"Old Billy" beat his slaves, and that his sons drank and his daughters
were a disgrace to him. (William's youngest daughter Abigail had a child out of
wedlock before marrying her first cousin Peter in 1805, so possibly she is the
daughter referred to.) William Dye died in 1806 in Mason Co., KY. Phebe
Mounteer Dye married her widowed brother-in-law, Kenneth Dye, on Sept.
16, 1815 in Mason Co., KY. Phebe Mounteer Dye died in 1818 in Mason Co., KY.
