FAMILY OF JAMES HOATSON/HEWETSON, STRATHMILLIGIAN

(The Christian names Jane and Jean were interchangeable. Sometimes also Janet).

James Hewetson (1785-1855) married Jean/Jane Williamson of Tynron in January 1816. She was born 23 March 1789 and died at Barr 13 July 1828. Their family were:

* It was the custom in England and Scotland to have children christened in both the father's parish and mother's parish. The above baptisms took place a week or so after the baptisms in Penpont. It wasn't necessarily done for all the children born to a couple.

Because of the spelling and placenames the first six appear to be our family. The James Hoatson of Leadhills was possibly of Wanlockhead, a mining village. Our Hewetson's had a farm near there - Lockerben. I am in contact with a descendant of the Wanlockhead Hoatson family, but have been unable to make a connection at this stage.
