  1. THOMAS HEWETSON (The Covenantor) Farmer of Auchenbenzie born 1622 died 1682 married GRIZEL HAINING born circa 1644.

  2. James HEWETSON born 1673 died 27 January 1747 Farmer of Laight later of Arkland, Dumfries  married firstly Margaret MENZIES or MINZIES on 12 October 1693 Glencairn, Closeburn, Dumfries. They had one recorded child - Margaret HEWETSON baptised 22 November 1702 Morton Church in Glencairn. Helen HEWETSON born circa 1700 may have also been a child of James and Margaret. She married James BROADFOOT 1 August 1718 Sanquhar. Nothing further known of Margaret MENZIES, her daughter Margaret or Helen HEWETSON.

    James HEWETSON married secondly Janet GILCHRIST of Mattock, Eccles Estate  born circa 1670 died 27 January 1731. Our descent is from this couple.

  3. James HEWETSON born circa 1707 died 26 December 1778, a Farmer of Arkland later of Auchenbenzie married Isabel HARKNESS of Holestains born 1714 died 27 May 1782 Auchenbenzie daughter of William HARKNESS and Isabel CURRIE.

  4. William HEWETSON born 28 April 1744 Arkland died 21 October 1822 Grennan, Schoolmaster of Penpont married firstly Janet MENZIES  born circa 1751 died 9 January 1778.

  5. Thomas HEWETSON of Holmhead, Glencairn born 3 January 1770 Penpont died 26 January 1847 married Agnes ROSS born 21 February 1772 married 12 May 1789. Their children:

Agnes HEWETSON born February 1830 Daily, Ayr a Grocer of Carronbridge,  Morton in 1851. Married Robert BROWN 7 November 1851 Morton by Thornhill.  Agnes had a child William MITCHELL known as William HEWETSON born circa 1847.  He was living at his Grandmother's home in Carronbridge, Morton at the time of the 1851 Census. Agnes was also living there. William emigated to New Zealand some time before 1866 and took his father's name of MITCHELL at that time. More on William HEWETSON/MITCHELL.

John Brown HEWETSON born circa 1831 living in Manchester in 1851 married Elizabeth MAXWELL 29 March 1859 at Glencairn. He was a Silk Mercer on the 1880 Census.
