Description Counterpart lease made between Owen Feltham, city of Dublin, gentleman, and Philip Bernard, Carlow, county Carlow, esquire. Bernard has surrendered a lease he led from Feltham. In consideration of this, Feltham now leases to Bernard a house built by Thomas Speate [Spaight] at Dublin street, Carlow, together with stable and garden. Lease to run for Feltham's lifetime at annual rent of £12 sterling.

Adjacent to Dublin street and Dublin road. Also leased to Bernard is a field near Carlow containing 12 acres, 1 rood and 25 perches plantation measure. Map of field present. Recites lease dated 23 February 1738 made between Robert Burton and Philip Bernard in respect of plots and houses commonly called Spaight's holding and Thomas Fisher's holding in Carlow. Adjacent to Dublin street. Also, field near the town of Carlow containing 12 acres, 1 rood and 25 perches plantation measure. Also, that part of Feltham's holding formerly let to Henry Whitestone and known by the name of Hanover containing 12 acres. Lease to run for three named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of £58.10.3½ sterling. The interest in the 1738 lease is now vested in Catherine Burton and Philip Bernard, junior, and Burton grants a renewal to Bernard by insertion of new lives.

Recites details of lease dated 14 September 1758 made between Philip Bernard, Carlow, county Carlow, esquire, and George Paine, of same place, gentleman, in respect of dwelling house, offices, yard and garden, and stable at side of lane leading to Mr Green's yard, at Dublin street, Carlow. Right of way along lane from street. Lease to run for three named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of £8.

 Also recites lease dated 28 May 1768 made between Jocelyn Davison, gentleman, and Peter Webb, vintner, in respect of several tenements and gardens lately in the tenure of Nicholas Roney and lying on the east side of Chapel lane, Carlow. Lease to run for three named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of £5.10.0.

 Also recites lease dated 8 October 1768 whereby Grace Loggan, widow of Reverend Joseph Loggan, demised to Hodson Bernard, esquire, the enclosed park known as the Quarry field then in the possession of Samuel Fitzgerald. Contains 4 acres and 3 roods plantation measure and lying by the road leading from Carlow to Castledermot, county Kildare. Lease to run for three named lives renewable forever. Annual rent of £2.19.4½.

 Also recites details of lease dated 24 December 1776 made between William Leybourne and Hodson Bernard in respect of the garden on the east side of Chapel lane, Carlow. Bounded on the south with the land Hudson Bernard purchased from Peter Webb and which Webb held from Jocelyn Davison, on the east with Bernard's Quarry field, on the west with the house inhabited by John Rothe and to the north with the chapel and Michael Rooney's holding and limekiln. Lease to run for three named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of £2.5.6 sterling.

 Also recites details of lease dated 1 August 1784 made between Philip Bernard, Carlow, esquire, and William Bernard, Carlow, esquire, in respect of part of the lands known as Major Columbine's land near the town of Carlow and containing 4 acres, 2 roods and 25 perches. Bounded on the east by Robert Rothe's land, on the west by the land of Henry Rudkin, esquire, on the north by the turnpike road from Carlow to Castledermot and on the south-east by the lands of Thomas Delany and William Elliott. Lease to run for three lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of 3 guineas per acre.

 Also recites details of lease dated 30 August 1789 made between John Hamilton and James Hamilton, city of Dublin, esquires, of one part, and William Bernard, of the other part, in respect of part of the lands of Crossnee, barony of Slievmaragah (Slievemargy), Queen's county (Laois), containing 146 acres, 2 roods and 26 perches plantation measure. Lease to run for three named lives or 61 years, whichever lasts longer. Annual rent of £1.15.0 late Irish currency per acre.

 Also recites lease dated 1 February 1801 made between Francis Byrne, Carlow, county Carlow, esquire, and Thomas Bernard, Gayville, county Carlow, esquire, in respect of dwelling house and houses and backside and garden behind same, situated on the west side of Dublin street, Carlow. Lease to run for 200 years at annual rent of £28.8.9 sterling late Irish currency. The interest in all the aforementioned indentures is now vested in William Bernard, party hereto. Recites details of mortgage and indemnity made between Bernard and Henry Bruen, party hereto, on 26 January 1832, and other agreements made between them. This current indenture relates to Bruen giving Bernard a further sum of £200 and in return, Bernard conveys to Bruen his interest in the aforementioned leases.
