James Chadwell of Penalt 1780.

This is the last will and testament of me James Chadwell late of the parish of St Clements alias Lame Bridgeset in the County of Oxford but now of Penalt in the County of Monmouth, joiner, whereby I dispose of my worldly estate as follows. First I give and devise my two messuages or tenements with the gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging in the parish of Stroud in the County of Gloucester to my nephew Richard Denton of Stroud aforesaid clock maker and his heirs for ever but subject nevertheless to an annuity of twenty shillings to my niece Bridget Watkins for her natural life by quarterly payments. I give and bequeath to the said Richard Denton and Bridget Watkins sixty pounds a piece to be paid them respectively within twelve months next after my decease. Item I give and bequeath to Sarah the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Chadwell of Penalt aforesaid twenty pounds and all the rest and residue of my real and personal estate not herein before disposed of I give and bequeath to the said Thomas Chadwell and do hereby appoint him sole executor of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight. The mark of the said James Chadwell.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator James Chadwell as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the sight and presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto the words to being first obliterated. This will was proved at London the first day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty before the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert, Doctor of Laws &c by the oath of Thomas Chadwell the sole executor named in the said will to whom administration was granted &c
