The last will and testament of James Gwynn, farmer, of the parish of Langoven in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Llandaff.
In the name of God Amen, I James Gwynn of the parish of Langoven in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Llandaff (farmer) being in sound, disposing mind, memory and understanding. and considering the shortness and uncertainty of this transitory life, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say, first I bequeath my soul to God who gave it, and commend my body to the earth. And as for and concerning my worldly estate, I give, demise and dispose of the same in the manner following, that is to say, I give and bequeath to each of my children Thomas, James, Mary and William who have severally attained the age of twenty one years the sum of fifty pounds to be paid to each of them at the expiration of the tease of the farm which I now hold. I also give and bequeath to each of my children John, Matthew and Emma now minors the sum of fifty pounds to be paid to each of them as they shall severally attain the age of twenty one years. The above mentioned legacies which I have given and bequeathed are to be paid according to my directions by the executrix whom I shall hereafter appoint, out of my property and then the remainder and residue of my property, household furniture, farming stock, implements of husbandry, and so on and all kinds of property whatsoever to me appertaining I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Ann Gwynn, upon condition that she pays all my just and lawful debts and funeral expenses. And I hereby appoint and constitute my above named wife Ann Gwynn sole executrix of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby revoke and disannul any former will and testament by me heretofore made, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine. 19th day of May 1840 Ann Gwynn, widow, the relict of the deceased and sole executrix in this will named was duly sworn as such and that the goods, chattels and credits of the deceased are under the value of four hundred and fifty pounds before me. Hy? Knight, Chancellor
Diocese of Llandaff, In the Consistory Court: In the goods of Mr James Gwynn, deceased. Appeared personally the Reverend James Farquhar of the parish of Langoven in the County of Monmouth, Clerk and made oath that the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be the last will and testament of James Gwynn late of the parish of Langoven in the said County, farmer, deceased, bearing date the ninth day of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine was wholly drawn and written by and with the proper hand writing of him the deponent pursuant to the directions and instructions given him by the deceased for that purpose and he further saith that after the will was so written as aforesaid the same was read over by the deponent to the said deceased who expressed his approbation thereof and signed his name at the foot or bottom of the said will in the presence of this deponent and of Mary Farquhar all of whom were present at the same time and who respectively subscribed their hands as witnesses thereto in the presence of the said testator and of each other. And he lastly made oath that the word fifty was written on an obliteration before the execution of the said will was executed by the said deceased James Farquhar, CIk. On the seventh day of October one thousand eight hundred and forty the said James Farquhar was sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me. David Jones. Surrogate
Diocese of Llandaff in the Consistory Court. In the goods of Mr James Gwynn deceased
Appeared personally Ann Gwynn of the parish of Langoven in the County of Monmouth, widow, the sole executrix named in the last will and testament the said James Gwynn of Langoven aforesaid, farmer, deceased who died in the month of December last and made oath that the estate and effects of the said deceased, for and in respect of which a probate of the said will is to be granted, exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a trustee for any other person or persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any anything on account of the debts due and owing from the said deceased, are under the value of four hundred and fifty pounds, to the best of this deponent's knowledge, information and belief. And she lastly made oath that the said deceased did not die possessed of any leasehold estate or estates for years, either absolute or determinable, on a life or lives to the best of this deponents knowledge, information and belief.
