Check out this site, as well. James is our cousin. We thank Bob Jacobs for his friendship, and devotion to the repatriation, of  James L. Moreland. James, or "Les", as he was called in school, was SF Mike Force. He was MIA in February, 1968.
It is very informative. James L. Moreland, by Bob Jacobs

RECENT NEWS.....................................................................................
We have found the name of my father-in-law's Father (which we knew, as my father-in-law was a Junior, but did not know his mother's first married name) & Mother, plus ALL of his siblings................
His father was Ruben, called Rube, MORELAND, Sr., and his mother was Sally (m.i. unk., maiden name unk., 1st marr. to a Mr. WIGGINS, of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Alabama) MORELAND. He had three half-siblings, two brothers & one sister, all WIGGINS, & two full-siblings, both brothers. We know that one of the two full brothers is passed, but have no idea about the other. Nor do we know anything about the three other siblings.
Rube, Sr., and Sally, along with their six children, and their respective parents, along with Mr. Wiggins and his parents, were all born in Alabama. This norrows it  back to about 1887. THis is as far as we have proceeded on the family.

Please, if anyone has any genelogical information on a Mrs. Sally WIGGINS MORELAND, and her children, of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Alabama, please contact us, via the e-mail address below.......Thank you.......B Moreland.. 31 OCT 2003

Frequently Asked Questions::::::::::::::::::
Q) How do you know if you are related to this MORELAND Family?
A) Well, ALL MORELAND's are related, as the family is very small, and did not grow as some families, like my mother's family, for instance. The real question is how to tie everyone together. This is where sharing information, regardless of how small or insignificant it may appear, with everyone that is researching the surname of MORELAND, and all collateral families.\

Q)Are we, being from Alabama, Tide or Eagle fans?
A) Well, my husband is from Alabama, and I'm from Texas. My father-in-law was Tide, as is my husband. So, I'm a Tide fan, but always we root for The Eagles, as well.

Q) Do you know of any European Moreland's?
A) Yes. The name originates in England. Near the Scottish border region. The name WESTMORELAND is a dirivative of MORELAND. My father-in-law's grnadfather or greatgrandfather, he couldn't remember which, was from England and had brothers that stayed and were "Loyal Royal" in nature during the American Revolution. My father-in-law also had an aunt in Georgia, around Savannah, and her MORELAND line was from Germany, he thought, originally. However, he thought they really originated in England and migrated to Germany. That was all he could remember.

Q) Do all MORELAND's serve in the military?
A) Don't know. Ours do. There are several installtion facilities named after MORELANDs that served this country, and gave the ultimate sacrifice. There has not, to our knowledge, been a MORELAND dishonorably discharged from The United States Military. This is distinctive of the honor and dedication of the MORELAND Family.
