What is "Project Morrisroe" ?

An attempt to;
- Determine the origi
n of the surname Morrisroe (and it's variations) as it applies to the Counties of Mayo and Roscommon, Ireland of 1900 and prior.

- Create proved lineage and history for the earliest of Morrisroe's in those counties and

- Aid the researcher in their family search.

The Study

As any researcher of this surname quickly finds, untangling the Morrisroe familes of the 1800's is quite a challenge due to; the close proximity of the numerous Morrisroe's, in some cases several living on the same property, the use of the same forename within family's for generations, and other nearby Morrisroe's doing the same. Also an obstacle is the gap in records from 1856 Griffiths Valuation to the 1901 census and limited religeous parish records.

By study of the surname, property records, census information, church and civil records, townland publications, workhouse records and others, combined with current day information provided by researchers it is hoped to show a clear and accurate history and lineage of the Morrisroe's of Mayo and Roscommon.
