Morvah Marriages 1617-1763
Although every care is
taken when transcribing these records errors can occur. It is
therefore advisable that they should be used as a guide until you are able to consult the original
Before 1752 the new year
began on Lady Day, 25 March which meant that parish register entries
continued beyond 31 December into the next year up until 24 March. The year would be counted as follows
- 31 December 1749 was followed by 1 January 1749 and continue until 24 March 1749.
- The next day would be 25 March 1750.
The
following changes were introduced because the calendar did not
keep pace with the sun and Easter was arriving later each year.- 1750 ran from 25 March
to 24 March, 365 days
- 1751 ran from 25 March
to 31 December, 282 days
- 1752 ran from 1 January
to 31 December, 354 days (it should have been a leap year but, the 29 February
and 11 days from the 3 to 13 September were taken out to bring the calendar back in line with the sun)
- 1753 onwards runs from 1 January
to 31 December, 365 days (The "modern" year)
