lived in Gasconade Co., MO, before coming to Greene Co., MO. He settled in Pond Creek Twp., Section 27. According to the "History of Billings," by John Hutler, 1895, Samuel was the first settler in this area, 1836. He settled 3 miles north of Billings with his wife and three children. Second settler was Jeremiah M LANEY, m. Feb. 23, 1832 in TN, to Sophia McAFEE (dau. Of Archibald McAFEE and Bethia GAROUTTE, who was a sister to Samuel. Samuel GAROUTTE settled within 5 miles of his brothers, James Smith GAROUTTE, William D. GAROUTTE, and Anthony GAROUTTE, and remained there until his death. Samuel, among dozens of his relatives and descendents, is buried in the "Blades Cemetery" 3 miles north of Billings. Primary locations include Greene Co. and Christian Co., Missouri between 1836 to present. Interested in correspondence with any descendent. |

They moved to Pickering, Ontario County, Canada in 1852. 3 more children were born there (Fredric, Ellen and Emeline. They then moved to Newfane, Niagara County, New York, where they stayed until the late 1860's. 2 more children were born there (Agness and Edward). Next they traveled to Hillsdale Michigan, where some of the elder children stayed. James and Mary Ann lived there until 1875. However, James, Mary Ann and the rest of their kids traveled on to Missouri and settled in Wheeling, Meadville and Chillicothe, in Livingston County. John P, Ellen (Joseph Lawler). Thomas’s son, James J Greeley, born Nov
14, 1882 married Lillian J Boody in St. Louis. They had 4 young
children when he deserted the family and was never heard from again. I
found him traveling from Panama Canal Zone in 1917. He appears working
in a ship yard in 1918 in Hoboken, NJ, with a new family and 7 more
children. He was killed in a car accident in 1924. |

Trying to find the origin town in Germany from which they came. In later census records they both show from Hesse-Darmstadt but I don't know which village. I have a strong suspicion they came from Reinheim, Hessen but can't prove that. Also I believe the name was changed from something else before they arrived in St. Charles. Possible names could have been Greiling or Greuling. Where would they have applied for naturalization? |

in Montgomery Co. on June 21, 1835. Myron died Nov. 29, 1901 and
is buried in Brush Creek Cemetery. I have no info on the Greens
before
they came to MO. I think that Myron's father was Stephen Green
who
also migrated from NY to Montgomery Co. at the same time. |

Missouri until moving to Kansas in 1882 where his older sister then
