ELDER, ROBERT, d. c. 1790-91. Pioneer settler at Elders Ridge, 1786.
   Mr. E. was m. first in Dauphin Co., name of his wife unknown.
By her he had a son who remained there.  His second wife was Mary Taylor.
Their children were:
James m. Martha Robinson 1792, d. 4-23-1813;
David b. 1754, m. Ann Nesbit 1790, moved to Ohio 1816;
Robert b. 1767, m. Mary Smith, d. 1813;
and Ann m. Archibald Marshall.
All of the children had reached maturity when Robert & Mary and the above
children settled on a tract where Elders Ridge is now located in 1786.  There
a hewed log house was erected, which also served as a blockhouse, on land
later owned by S.J. Craighead and more recently the Rosensteel Family.
James Elder was a firm temperance advocate (I:307)
   Mr. E. was said to have been a grandson of Robert & Eleanor Elder
who migrated from Drummore, Co. Down, Ulster c. 1730 and settled
about 5 mi. N. of Harrisburg at Paxtang.  Our subject was a second
cousin of Joshua Elder who surveyed many of the original land patents
in IC (see I:131).  Some of the surveys are mentioned in
I: 28, 46, 60 and 84M.  A s/o Rev. John Elder of Paxtang, Joshua
served as the first prothonotary of Dauphin Co. 1785.  He m. (1)
Mary McAlister who d. 1782 age 29 and (2) Sarah McAlister who
d. 1807 age 45.  Joshua d. 1820, age 76.
