Joseph Elder died on the 30th day of May 1874
between the hours of 6 & 7 oclock PM.
In the name of God Amen. I Joseph Elder of the County of Westmoreland
State of Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory thanks be to
God for the same, but considering the frailty of this life do make and
publish this my last will and testament
in manner and form as follows, and first of all my will is that
all debts by me owing
with my funeral expenses be paid by my Executors hereinafter mentioned,
my will is that if I am called from this life before my wife Jane
or my daughter Elisabeth my will is they shall have the sole posession
of the old Homestead and to be furnished with sufficient meat and
drink
and wearing apparel and my daughter Elisabeth shall have 300 dollars
out of my Real personal estate viz 50 dollars annually without interest.
She shall have my Gold watch, she shall furnish her own clothing
generally out of the marketing, my will is that my son Robert shall
have all my
Real and personal Estate, he shall have my compass and chain and
surveying instruments.
The Black mare and buggy I reserve when I want to ride.
Also my son Robert shall have my Rifle Gun, and my Books
I allow to be equally divided between my four children,
Elisabeth, James, Alexander and Robert.
And lastly I nominate my sons Alexander Elder and Robert Elder
Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all
other wills
by me heretofore made declaring this only to be my last will and
testament.
In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 5th
February 1870.

and in his presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereunto.
