"Dr. Francis "Frank" McConaughy
wrote more than seventy-five articles between 6 May 1891 and
9
December 1893. These articles, detailing his recollections of life
in
the Ligonier Valley were published in the Ligonier, PA "Echo" newspaper.
Dr. McConaughy signed all of his articles

"In reference to schools and schoolmasters in my experience and
observation from early in the twenties up to 1839...
"The next school I remember was on the northwest corner of the Pollock
land...
"This school was in charge of Master Elder, a rather grave looking
old gent who commanded strict obedience. His son
Joseph
(Joseph Elder, b. abt 1798-d.1874 - buried Unity Presb Cem)
settled near Pleasant Unity and also followed
teaching.

elsewhere went to him for instruction."
