JOHN A. ELDER Dies Near Denton (born 1857 TN)

John A. ELDER, 82, a pioneer Denton County resident,
died at his home on the Dallas Highway at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
He was a native of Tennessee, where he was born June 29, 1857, and
had lived in Denton County 65 years.
He was a dairyman and farmer, and a member of the Methodist
Church.
Elder is survived by his wife, who was Miss Irene Ferguson
of Denton, and four children, W. T. ELDER and M. R. ELDER of
Wichita Falls, Earl O. ELDER of Oklahoma City and Mrs. E. G. WAMSLEY
of
California. The body is being held in the Shepard Funeral
Home until arrival
of the children, when plans for time and place of funeral services
and burial
will be made.

"County Pioneer Is Found Dead In Her Home
Funeral services for Mrs. Irene F. Elder, 68, life-long resident
of
Denton County, were to be held at 4:30 p.m. today at the Sheperd
Chapel.
She was found dead Tuesday at her home near Corinth. She was
found
about noon by a neighbor, Mrs. Walker Martin.
Rev. W. L. Gentry, pastor of the Pearl Street Church
of Christ, was to
officiate and burial was to be at Oak Wood Cemetery.
Mrs. Elder was born in Denton Aug. 25, 1880, a daughter
of former
county Judge I.P. Ferguson.
In 1917 she was associate professor of music at Texas State
College
for Women.
She is survived by one step-son, M.R. Elder.

Mrs. J. A. Elder died Sunday
"Mrs. Dorothy V. Elder, wife of J.A. Elder,
died at her home, 108 North Elm street,
after suffering for a period of five years with paralysis, the
last serious illness confining her to bed for five weeks.
Death came at 5:45 Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Elder was sixty-one years old, and is survived
by her husband and four children, Rothwell Elder, [Munsey]
who with his wife and child lives in Denton, Earl and Alma Elder
[Virgie],
who attend school, and William Elder of Forth Worth, who with his
wife
and child came in early Monday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Elder formerly lived in Pilot Point, but moved
first to Burk-burnett and then to Denton, where they
have lived two years last September.
The remains were taken to Pilot Point Monday afternoon,
accompanied by the relatives, Mrs. and Mrs. H.S. Smith, the
latter who nursed Mrs. Elder during her last illness, and Mrs. and
Mrs.
Sam Copeland, who went thru in the car.
Mrs. Elder was a member of the Methodist Church and the Methodist
minister in Pilot Point will be in charge of the services.

BRIDGEPORT (Special) -
Services were held at 2 p.m.
today in the Hawkins Funeral Chapel for John Elmore ELDER,
91, a retired dairy farmer whose survivors include a great-great-grandchild.
The services were conducted by the Rev. Milford Thompson,
pastor of the First Methodist Church. Burial was in East Side
Cemtery
under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home.
Mr. ELDER died Monday at 11:55 a.m. in the Golden years Retreat
Rest Home. He was born in Arkansas and lived in Wise County
72 years.
He was a member of the Bridgeport First Methodist Church and the
Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include four sons, Clyde and Vernon, both of Wichita
Falls,
Lee of Fort Worth, and S. L. of Denton; three daughters, Mrs. W.
J. Mann of Bridgeport and
Mrs. H. I. Souther and Mrs. Robert B. Waggoner, both of Wichita
Falls;
13 grandchildren, and the one great-great-grandchild.
