Surname: Elder
Sex: M
Birth: 25 May 1729 in Banff, Highland, Scotland [LDS - Banff Christenings]
Death: Abt 1786 in , Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA
Note:
>NOTES: I have run across a number of people who say George was from
Scotland and not Ireland. He could have been living in Northern Ireland
at the time of his immigration to America and that could be how Ireland
came to be his birth place in a lot of records. I still need more work
to verify this information.
>HISTORY: George had two sons
who died as P.O.W's of the British during the Revolutionary War. Both
died of malnutrition. Seven of his sons came to Kentucky through the
Cumberland Gap in 1795.
>One died on the way, and was
buried on the side of the road. One son, Thomas, stayed in Spartanburg
County, South Carolina. This info came from family records and Bible of
John C. Elder. Now in possession of Valanie Elder Clayton of Salem,
Livingston, Kentucky. -1978- He may have also fought and died during
the Revolutionary War.

Name: James MONCUR
Birth: ABT 1759 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland
Christening: Dundee, Angus, Scotland
Note:
A brief History:
This name appears in very early charters, and it is suggested that it may derive from the French word 'coeur' meaning 'heart'.
Michael de Muncur, a soldier, witnessed a charter by Isabella Bruce, between 1237 and 1248.
Andrew de Monctour appears on the Ragman Roll rendering homage for his lands to Edward I of England in 1296.
Marriota de Moncur is listed by Black as being Lady de Rossy in 1302.
Andrew Moncur of that Ilk gave a bond of manrent to the Earl of Errol in 1541.
The
Moncurs of that Ilk flourished around Perthshire, and their Castle of
Moncur was in the Parish of Inchture in the Carse of Gowrie.
The
Moncurs of Dundee had a high reputation as armourers in the 16th
century. There are many references to armour made by them and they
appear to have been armour makers to the royal court.
Tour Inchture In The Carse Of Gowrie
A
battle was allegedly fought near the ruined castle of Moncur, across
the main road to the north of the village, in 728, when in a civil war
Hungus, or Angus, defeated Nectan and gained the leadership of the
Picts.

by Battle, Perrin, Kniffin 2nd ed. 1885
Crittenden
County._J. C. Elder, Jr., Crittenden County, was born in Equality,
Gallatin County, Illinois, 24 August 1847. Dr. J. C. Elder,
Sr. was born in what is now Crittenden County, then Livingston
County, Kentucky 12 January 1819. He was a son of David and
Eleanor (Dickey) Elder. His father was born in North Carolina,

" John Elder, the father of
David, was a soldier in the Revolution, as was also four of his
brothers; two of whom were killed in the conflict. In 1791, David
and Eleanor Elder came to Kentucky and settled two miles south of the
present site of Marion. There David bought 400 acres, which he
subsequently divided among his children, and there he died 24 June 1832.
"J. C. Elder, Sr., grew up in Crittenden County and remained
there until he was seventeen. He then moved to Gallatin County,
Illinois and settled on a farm twelve miles north of Shawneetown.
At the age of twenty-three he commenced studying medicine under Dr. E.
H. Holman of Equality, Illinois. He read with him two years. In

Stinson, daughter of Andrew and Catherine (McCallister) Stinson, the
