Rev. James Elder wrote to comfort his daughter Jane Maria Moore (Nee Elder) as she lay sick in Muff (now Eglinton) in 1835.
"I hope", he writes, " you have profited spiritually by your affliction..."
  >The congregation book also states that Jane Maria Moore stood to inherit a substantial property
following the death of her brother, a Mississippi planter.
She refused the inheritance because of her conscientious objection to slavery."
