Milnathort - Answers.com
at
http://www.answers.com/topic/milnathort

"Milnathort is a village in the Perth & Kinross region of Scotland.
It is situated at the foot of the Ochil Hills, near the northern
shore of the infamous Loch Leven where Mary Queen of Scots was
imprisoned in 1567 until she escaped a year later. It was a market
town associated with nearby Burleigh Castle, stronghold of the
Balfours of Burleigh.

  Amenities
It is home to a nine hole golf course, a range of pubs and cafés,
plus a well renowned ice cream shop. It also contains a war memorial
statue in the centre of the green area of the village. This pretty
area is situated next to the Primary School and has a recreation park within it.
The town is a stone's throw away from one of Europe's biggest music festivals,
T in the Park, which is held annually at the Balado airfield.

 Horse Racing [at ARLARY FARM]
Milnathort is also home to Scotland's top National Hunt horse racing
stable (06/07) run by trainer, Lucinda Russell. The stable is home to
over 50 horses which are trained from the Milnathort base. Success is
achieved all over Scotland and England as the stable has grown from
strength to strength in the past few years. The racehorses can be
seen regularly hacking through Milnathort or heading towards the
gallops which rise into the Ochil Hills overlooking the majestic Loch
Leven.

Flooding
On 13 December 2006 heavy rainfall caused the Queich Burn, which runs
through the centre of Milnathort, to burst its banks. This led to
flooding, and some residents were temporarily evacuated from their
homes. [[1]]

By Ewan Pate, farming editor
11 Jan 2006
JOHN CAMERON, who has operated in the top echelons of Scottish agriculture throughout his career,
has announced that he is to considerably wind down his farming operation.
...
Mr and Mrs Cameron are to retain the 400-acre home farm at Balbuthie, St Monans,
and the nearby rented farm of Pittarthie....

Balbuthie is all to be put down to grass and Mrs Cameron’s herd of Hereford cattle
will still be very much to the fore..."
