OBIT
Well known Burlingame figure dies.
William H. Elder of the Standard Oil purchasing
department, a
resident of Burlingame for the past four
and a half years, died at the family
home, 1205 Floribunda Avenue, this morning (4/16/1928)
following a two week illness.
Born in Redding, California, 41 years ago, Elder
finished his education
there and moved to San Francisco where he was
employed in the San
Francisco mint under T. W. H. Shannahan, superintendent
and father of Elizabeth
Shannahan who was later to become the bride of Elder.
Leaves Mint. Perfecting an invention that
was bought by the United States government
for use in the mint, Elder earned a reputation
as an inventor. When
Shannahan left the mint, Elder left and became
associated with the Standard Oil
Company. The family moved to Burlingame from San Francisco.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Peter. He was
a
prominent member of the Burlingame Lodge #400 F. &
A. M.
Funeral Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted
by the Masonic Lodge on
Thursday morning at 10:00. Internment will follow
at Cypress Lawn Cemetery.

Peter James Elder
"Peter James Elder, 87, passed away quietly at his home on September
20, 2004. Born in San Francisco on
February 26, 1917 he was the son of Elizabeth S. and William
H. Elder. He spent summers on a family ranch in
Anderson, California, and enjoyed attending Shanigan Lake School
on Vancouver Island. He moved to Hong
[SHAWNIGAN LAKE]
Kong in 1939 to work for a marine insurance agency. In December
1941 he was interned as a civilian POW by
the Japanese. He was repatriated 9 months later. Upon release,
he became an officer in the Army Air Corps. He returned to
the Orient for business in 1945, and then married Cathryne
Percy in Manilla. They moved to Phoenix in 1953 and had one
daughter, Dorian Elder Kuper who lives in Oregon with her
husband, Tom. Peter married Dee Klages in 1964. They had a
wonderful life together for 40 years. Peter owned Elder Insurance
Agency until he retired. During retirement he donated time
to SCORE, enjoyed gardening and barbecueing. There will be no services.
He will join his parents in the family vault in San
Francisco. "

Obituaries
Elizabeth ELDER
Elizabeth S. Elder, 87, a real estate broker 40 years with
Jerome Draper & Co. of Burlingame, Calif., until retiring in
1960, died yesterday in Beatitudes Campus of Care.
Mrs. Elder, 1712 W. Glendale, a native of Anderson,
Calif., was the daughter of
Thaddius W.H. Shanahan, a former U.S. senator from California.
She moved to Phoenix in 1964 from Burlingame and was
a member of
All Saints Episcopal Church and of the California Real Estate Association.
Survivors include a son, Peter Elder of Scottsdale; and a
granddaughter,
Dorian E. Elder of Paradise Valley.
Memorial services at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the church,
6300 N. Central, will be followed by private cremation, Grimshaw
Bethany Chapel announced.
The family suggests memorial gifts for Parkinsons disease
research at Barrow Neurological Institute, 350 W. Thomas.
