Sailed Glasgow August 25th 1859 - arrived Port Chalmers December 3rd 1859
Two voyages were made to the colony by
the Cheviot, a large vessel of over 1,000 tons, well fitted up for the conveyance of
passengers. In 1859 she sailed from Glasgow with immigrants, and arrived at Port Chalmers
on the 27th November, making the passage in 95 days. Three years later, 1862, she again
sailed from Glasgow on the 21st June for Port Chalmers with 225 immigrants, under Captain
Orkney, and after a tedious and protracted passage arrived on October 12th.

On this voyage the Cheviot was chartered by John Morton from Potter, Wilson & Company and specially fitted to carry all livestock, farming impliments and passengers who were farmers. The number of passengers was limited to forty to give maximum space for livestock and cargo.
