John Thomas BERRY:
John Thomas BERRY, son of Thomas BERRY by his second wife Sarah BARRON, emigrated to New Zealand with his father aboard the "Ralph Bernal" in 1847.  In 1856 he married Giles GIBSON, who had come to New Zealand with her family in 1842 aboard the "Fifeshire".  They had six children: Martha Charlotte (1856-1893), Alfred John (1858-1913), Arthur Thomas (1860-1861), John William (born 1862), Henry James (died 1958), and Charles (1867-1927).  John (father) apparently did some prospecting and exploration for the provincial government. On moving from Nelson to Renwick in about 1876, he became a schoolmaster, and indeed built the second school there.  He died in 1889. If you have a connection with this family or would like to know more please contact David Lamb.
