Berry, Mrs. C.J. (Wilson, Sarah Ann) IN MEMORY OF SARAH ANN BERRYBERRY, Mrs. C. J. (Wilson, Sarah Ann)
Last Wednesday evening, November 17, 1915, at about 10:00 o'clock, a
shadow was cast over Eldon when the angel of death visited the home of
C. J. Berry and took from there the wife and mother, commonly known as
Grandma Berry. Her maiden name was Sarah Ann Wilson, daughter of
Joseph and Nancy Wilson, deceased. She was born in Maries county,
Missouri, May 19, 1839, where she lived with her parents until Dec. 18,
1860 when she was married to C. J. Berry at the home of her parents, by
Robert Rowden, J. P. Most of her remaining days were spent on their
farm one mile south of Capps. Her health failing they sold the farm
last April and moved to Eldon where their son, W. P. Berry, could help
his mother.
Death came as a terrible shock although not unexpected because of
heart trouble which caused her death. She had conversed with the
family until a late hour in the evening. about 10 o'clock the family
had retired when Mrs. Shelton heard her say, "Come girls come here. I
don't see what makes me smother so!" Her daughter had just time to
take her in her arms when she sank back and had gone to the beautiful
beyond where there is no more suffering.
