James SINCLAIR the chamberlain was first married 1764 to Anna ROBERTSON (-1770)

Catherine SINCLAIR (1822-1908) - her parents were Peter SINCLAIR & Catherine MCLEOD. Peter was a blacksmith at Forss in Thurso parish, Caithness Scotland; although Catherine was actually born at Achnavast in Thurso parish. It is likely that Peter is buried at St Mary's Chapel at Crosskirk on the Thurso coast near Forss. Catherine's husband, David SINCLAIR, claimed that her father was William SINCLAIR, 8th of Freswick, who died 1838 aged 90.

Donald the sailor, who had his own ship, James the chamberlain and John had families at Wick parish, Caithness, Scotland. James was at Sarclet where he was a fisherman and saltmaker, the salt being traded up and down the coast by his father Donald. John was at Sarclet and then at Reiss. He is likely the John SINCLAIR buried 1857 in the graveyard at old Wick parish church. David was born at Hempriggs and went to Victoria Australia with his family in 1851 on the ship 'SEA'. David became a cattle farmer and grazier. His son Peter went from Victoria to New Zealand then married Annie MCDONALD at Swan Bay, Victoria in 1876. Peter and Annie raised their family in New Zealand. Peter became a County Clerk and Engineer after working his way through the ranks in different parts of New Zealand.

David had many siblings and at least three of his brothers also went to Australia; Alexander (=Alicia TELFORD), James (=Mary Ann CROWL) and John (=Margaret BAIN). Alexander and James had no issue but John had several.
