Rachel Francis Corey-Bowman |
Rachel Francis Corey Bowman was born in Ohio, December 29 1850, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dora Castor, Louisburg, Kansas on November 14 1926, at the age of 75 years, 11 months, and 15 days. She was married to Atney Bowman May 1870 in Missouri. To this union, eight children were born, all of whom are living. Mr. Bowman passed away at their home in Daviess County, where she remained until her family grew up. She has made her home with her children the past few years, as her health has been very poor. She had a stroke more than a year ago, the effects of which caused her death. She united with the Baptist Church at the age of 51 and her life was a spiritual uplift to all her associates. She is survived by her children, Mrs. Dora Castor, Louisburg, Kansas; Mrs. Nora Morgan, Lyons Colorado; Mrs. Ida Ray, Fortuna, Kansas; Mrs. Laura Ray, Jones, Oklahoma; Mrs. Sadie Smith, King City, Missouri; Mrs. Rebecca Pearl, Fairport, Missouri; Mr. Ashford Bowman, Fairport, Missouri; Mr. Lewis Bowman, Gothenburg, Nebraska; and one brother, Charlie Carey, Pattonsburg, Missouri. Besides these there are fifty grand children and twenty great grand children, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted by the Reverends House and Miller, at the Muddy Creek church Nov 16th in the presence of a large audience of sorrowing friends, by whom she will be sadly missed. All the children were present at the funeral, except Mrs. Morgan and Lewis Bowman. * Obituary provided by Judy Steinman, great granddaughter of Rachel’s sister Nancy Corey Bowman. |
