Note: In abt. 1850, the Friedmann family started a Textile business in Šternberk/Sternberg, Moravia. 1852: Anton Heeg, Ignatz Schottik and Heinrich
Friedmann formed a firm "Heeg, Schottik & Friedmann". 1863: Johann Kuntner sold the building (current post office see right) to "Anton Heeg & Heinrich Friedmann". 1868: the partnership dissolved and Anton sold his share to Heinrich, who died in 1891. Ludwig Friedmann inherited the building, sold it in 1909 to K. K. Allgemeine Verkehrbank Wien, year after Arthur Friedmann bought his shares and became the owner of "Heeg & Friedmann" (mechanická tkalcovna na lněné a bavlněné zboží) *See 1891 "Heeg & Friedmann" newspaper announcement draft images

Note: see Emperor Franz Joseph Medico and Jubilee Hospital "The year 1874 found 10 doctors, including Doctor Jacob Welcker, Doctor Henry Stanieck, Doctor Frederick fever, doctor and professor Leopold Dömeny, Carl Rokitansky, initially a club and then a Medico to the poor by Maria auxiliary medical treatments.Erster Standort der Mariahilfer Ambulanz war das Haus Mariahilfer Straße 57, wo man sich einmietete und der erste Direktor war Jakob Welcker. First Mariahilfer ambulance location of the house was Mariahilfer Strasse 57, where you can einmietete, and the first director was Jacob Welcker.." Leopold added a wing to the hospital at his own expense. For this he was knighted by the Emperor Franz Joseph. Hence the name Leopold von Dömény, M.D., (general) and he was one of the Emperors doctors1876 folgte ihm Heinrich Stanieck nach, der dieses Amt bis 1885 ausübte.. Leopold von Dömény, M.D. was awarded the Austrian Imperial Order of the Iron Crown third class, Austrian Order of Franz Joseph, owner of the Officer's Honor Medal of the Red Cross and war decoration, an Honor Medal for 40 years of faithfull service, and the Anniversary Medal for the active military armed power. Leopold was very much into sports - liked to ski and ride horses. He and his son, Paul, spent a lot of time in the mountains. There was a bronze figure of Leopold in the hospital entrance that he built in Vienna
Note: Paul von Dömény, M.D. as a major in the Austo-Hungarian army in Bulgaria, was in charge of
sanitation for Romania and Bulgaria. Later he was a Major General and all the army doctors reported to him. According to Emerich Paul's birth certificate, he was a military surgeon of the k.k. (Kaiser and Kings) Landwehr i.r. 2 (infantry regiment) in Linz. Paul von Dömény, M.D was awarded the Red Cross Second Class a Austro-Hungary, Honor decoration of the Red Cross award, 2nd class issued until WW1. He converted to Catholism sometime before 1910; but on Nov.15, 1935 Germany defines a “Jew” anyone with 3 Jewish grandparents, or someone with two Jewish grandparents who identified themselves as a Jew. On March 3, 1936 Jewish doctors were barred from practicing medicine in German institutions. On March 30, 1938 Paul submitted his completed form of all the property he owned as required by the German government. On August 20, 1942 Paul was deported to Theresienstadt. A family friend, Eric Kroner, took care of him during WWII and according to Eric, Paul died during an air raid in Vienna between 1942 and 1943. May 19, 2000, Paul Anthony received a letter from Aunt Maria (Dömeny) Franco regarding an inquiry she made in 1946 about the fate of her mother and father from American joint distribution committee, intergovernmental committee on refugees, Hq allied commission, APO 294, dated January 16, 1946 stating "Dr. Paul Dömeny, last address in Vienna: 2 Novaragasse 32/I/4, deported to Theresienstadt on Aug. 20, 1942. He does not appear to be on the lists of persons who are returned from concentration camps". *see ref. Paul Dömeny 1876, Wien 7 00573, Providentia Prag, keine Angaben. Died: Feb 21, 2003 in Napols, Italy age 88 + Eduardo FRANCO Born: abt 1909. Married: Aug 9, 1938 in Naples, Italy. Died: abt 1983 in Milano, Italy age 74 est. occupation: Attorney, family owned a light factory. Father: Enriko Franco
Note: In 1930 Maria signed a contract with the Follies to dance and went to Italy. She performed in New York in 1936 or 1937 at the French Casino on 7th Ave. at 50th St, as well as in London, France, Rome, and Vienna. They
had two homes in Capri, Italy and an apartment in Naples. The family had lost everything and they had to leave Capri for fear of losing their lives. They moved to Milano, Italy where Maria wanted to open a jewelry
store. In the 1960's they lost everything; but a friend in Milano offered them his apartment at agood price, which is where she lived. Families name in Hungary was Deutsch. She did not know if Leopold had any brothers. Maria spoke 5 languages: Italian, German, English, French and Hungarian. She learned English during 15 years that she operated her jewelry store in Capri. Many of her customers were English. She tried to reclaim her family’s property in Vienna, but the Austrian government would not take Italian Lira and her brother did not want to send US dollars. The Austrian government was very uncooperative in her efforts to reclaim the property. The Dömeny family in Vienna was quite wealthy, but they lost everything due to the war. After her parents divorced, Maria would go over to the family house on Sunday's for dinner, as Matilda liked Maria
