This is another cemetery which is
easiest found via the GPS. Take Hwy-6 north from I-10 and turn left
(west) on Pine Forest (just south of Clay Road). About ¼ mile down,
you’ll find what looks like a tractor path and farm gate on the left
(south). The gate will most likely be padlocked and visitors should
seek permission of the park rangers before visiting. Once through
the gate, follow the tree line around to the right, way around to
the right, until you see the fenced cemetery on the right just
inside the tree line. There is likely (rumored to be) a negro
cemetery just to the left of the fenced in family plot however it
has been lost to time and the elements. NOTE: you’ll need permission
and a key to get into the cemetery. Contact___??___ |

This
is another difficult-to-find cemetery where a GPS would be
invaluable. Roughly, take Eldridge Parkway north from I-10, past
Patterson Road and turn left on War Memorial Drive. Continue about
¾ mile and turn left on Sullins Way. This is where it gets
difficult; follow Sullins down and around until you get to two
pavilions on the left and a large picnic area on the right side of
the road (we need approximate mileage). Park back at the tree line
behind the picnic area on the right and look for an opening in
the trees leading to a red gate (see photos 1 & 2). From the gate
and through the trees, you’ll see a large pasture (see photo 3). On
the far side of the pasture and barely discernable in the center of
the photo is the fenced in cemetery. It is locked and you’ll need
to get permission to enter. The park office is located at the end
of Zorn which is the first left off of War Memorial after entering
the park. |
