Hello. My name is Marie Grucz. I was born and raised in the middle Tennessee area but have lived in Cullman Co. Alabama since 1988. I am married to a wonderful man and I have 10 year old daughter who is the light of my life. I received my A.A.S in Business Management--Entrepreneurship in Dec 2007. I need to update this site and will try to find time over the holidays and the next few months. In January 2008(spring semester) I will be starting work on my Computer Science degree of Networking Technology.
I love reading many different books and listening to just about all types of music. I enjoy watching the sci fi shows on the Sci-Fi network: SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica. I also love to watch Scrubs, The Office, American Idol, Heroes, Friday Night Lights, The Shield and Antique Roadshow. Two other of my favorite past times are Genealogy and Web Page Design. I have been researching my family tree for over seventeen years now. Most of my research has been concentrated on the Middle Tennessee Counties of Bedford, Bledsoe, Dekalb, Marshall, Rutherford, Sumner, Van Buren, Warren, & White. I also have lines in the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas & Virginia.
As I mentioned earlier, I have lived in Cullman Co. since 1988 however none of my own lines lived in this area. What experience I have with Cullman Co. AL research is thru researching my daughter's paternal lines several of which were in Cullman and thru helping friends who have research in this area. The Wallace State College Library is an excellent place to research. They have a wonderful Genealogy Program which anyone who has southern research shouldn't miss checking into if they are in the area. You can also search their Card Catalog online.
I have taken pictures at several Blount Co. and Cullman Co. AL cemeteries and have those online Robin Sterling used to have a wonderful site for Blount & Cullman Co. AL researchers to find info about those cemeteries but he has chosen not to have the information available to researchers online anymore. I think if you visit the local library you can probably find his research there. Another avenue to check is the Cullman County Obits for the years 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and May 2003-Current which can be found by clicking on the year of interest.(please note this link to the Cullman Times doesn't work since their new format change. I have contacted them and asked if they will be making these available again but haven't heard back from that yet. Will update this when I know more about that)
While helping my friends with their research I have also developed an interest in some of the local families. Those Surnames are: Cofield, Ellis, Lindsay, Sandlin, Stewart, Vest. I also have an interest in the surnames of Butler, Dunagan, Griggs, Rooker and Smith in Cullman and you can find those at Richard's WorldConnect file which also contains his maternal lines-- Bodiford, Kirkland, Skeen, Smith, Whitehead and many other families from the Henry Co. AL area.

Census Records of the Edward Dickinson Family--This is a page I made which contains transcriptions of census records for the poet Emily Dickinson, her parents and siblings. I have also included several links to some other pages about her.
Census Records of Staley Brothers' Photographers of Tullahoma TN--While looking thru some of the old photographs of my ancestors I noticed that a picture of my Great Grandfather James Jakes, has the name of the studio which produced the picture. The photographers were Staley Bros. out of Tullahoma, Coffee Co., TN. I thought it might be neat to find those photographers in the census records.
