Though it is hard to know, for sure, from where our Dulany family descends originally, it is probably Irish. "The name Dulany is said to have been derived from the Irish O'Dulaney which was originally O'Dubhlaine or O'Dulanie."1 Our Dulany family has not yet been traced back to Ireland by any of the researchers. The research is pretty much at a standstill with the generation before John Preston Dulany (b. 1809). It is surmised that Preston Dulany's parents were James /Thomas Dulany and Nellie/Eleander ?Cunningham. Another goal sometime in my future.
My great grandfather, Avery Grant Dulany, was born on Christmas eve in 1869 to Isaiah Hutson Dulany and Sarah Saphronia Green. Avery (Grant) Dulany married Anna Robertson, July 10, 1889 in Illinois. Grant and Anna Dulany had 9 children: Herbert, Burl, Earl, Clyde, Theodore, John, Nora, Chloe and Jewel. William Herbert Dulany, my grandfather, was born in Illinois in 1890, and married my grandmother, Alice Shaffer in 1920 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
My great grandfather, Grant Dulany, was a teacher and a territorial Judge. He was also a street-car operator in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a short time.
