Is the Coat of Arms which was originally on the welcome page anywhere on site? I too had a hard drive crash and it was not backed up. Fortunately all of my genealogical data was! Thanks for all you offer through these pages. Still have much to explore.

I believe there is an error in the Royer book. It claims Philip Royer (1733-1806) married Elizabeth Hernley (1729-1804). I believe this is false. There were very few Hernley's at this time. There was the family of Ulrich and his brother Jacob Hernley. Jacob Hernley married Anna Landis. They had 3 children. Christian Hernley 1760-1845 who married Ann Wenger. Their daughter married Samuel Royer. There was Margaret Hernley (1772-1862) who married John Swar. And there was an ELIZABETH HERNLEY 1763-1845 who married Philip Royer (jr.) 1759-1810. I contend that this information is correct and Philip Royer (sr) should be married to an Elizabeth unknown instead of Philip junior. Does anyone have any real documentation outside of the Royer book to show that Philip Royer (sr.) was married to a Hernley? I believe Francis might have gotten his Philips and facts mixed up.

I will do some checking in my files and various books. Phillip Sr born 1733-1804 is buried in Lehn's Cemetery near Neffsville, Lancaster Co. Lehn's cemetery ended up being a grazing pasture for sheep. But in 1981 I believe , his stone was still upright and could be read easily. It would be nice if Elizabeths headstone was still there also as it might help prove or disprove the relationship. Five generations of Royers are buried in this cemetery. Phillips last name was spelled Reyer. Will follow later.Rick
Here is all I can find. None of which will clear up the confusion.

According to Royer Genealogy Revisted and Revised, 7 generations of Royers in America, by David E. Bartlow, 1994, first edition, incomplete. Philip Royer, son of Emig Royer, was born Sept 1, 1733 in LeacockTwp. Lancaster Co, Pa. He died Sept. 12, 1804 Manheim Twp. Lancaster Co. Pa. He was a farmer and is buried at Stienmetz's Cemetery or Lehn's Cemetery. (RR Note: I have a photo of his head stone in Lehn's Cemetery and the dates are the same.)

He married ca. 1757, Lancaster Co. Pa. to Elizabeth Hernley, born July 1729, Lancaster Co. Pa. Died Sept. 24 1804, Manheim Twp. Lancaster Co. Pa. She is buried Steinmetz Cemetery. She was the daughter of Christian Hernley. Continued after notes: --- ((Other Hernley's in book, Samuel Royer, born May 30,1784, Middle Creek, Lancaster Co. Pa., Died Oct 17, 1862, Jackson Twp., Lebanon Co. Pa. married ca. 1805, Lancaster Co. Pa.???? to Maria Hernley, born Aug. 1, 1785, PA., Died May 28, 1857 Jackson Twp. Lebanon Co. Pa. Parents of Maria- Christian Hernley 1760-1845. and Anna --?--, 1764-1854.))

((8 other philip's/Phillip's also listed in book.Lancasterco. and Montgomery co. line.)) --- Continued- To this union was born, Philip Royer, born Dec. 5, 1759, Manheim Twp. Lancaster Co. Pa. He died July 13 1810, Shoeneck Twp., Lancaster Co. Pa. He married Elizabeth --?--, born 1763, died 1845.

(RR Note: As this says they are buried together in the same cemetery, It would be great if her headstone were still there and in good shape and readable. This I would think that if they were buried next to each other it might lend to documentation. The dates for Philip jr's wife Elizabeth matches what you said above. So it is begining to look like you may be right so far.)

In the Helen Miller Robertson Book, The Henry Royer and Sebastian Royer Families with allied families, 1987. Has the same dates for birth and death of Philip Royer Sr. he was baptised at the Muddy Creek Church, Lancaster Co. Pa. married Elizabeth Hernley.Has Philip Jr. listed and children but no spouse.(RR Note:I believe that her data was also taken from the Francis book.) Other Hernley's listed in the book- NONE I will end this message and start it back up in the next message as sometime the message is cut short by volume.Rick

In the book, Addendum to History of the Royer Family in America J.G. Francis, by Harry K. Royer.

Page 10-11; In Lehn's cemetery near Neffsville, Lancaster Co. I found the tombstones of the third, fourth, and fifth generations of direct linage of our ancestors. (See more about Lehn's cemetery later.)On the tombstone of III. Philip, the name is spelled "Reyer". born Sept. 1,1733, died Sept. 12,1804. This is also true of the fourth generation, IV. Benjamin who died 1841. On the stone of the fifth generation, V. Benjamin H., it is spelled Royer, born July 6, 1804, died Oct. 2, 1850. Thus we see that Anna spelled it REYER" in1817 (in the bible) and on the tombstone of V. Benjamin, who died in 1850, it is spelled Royer. May we assume, then, that the spelling was changed sometime between 1817 and 1850?

Page 15; III. Philip b. 1733, D. 1804 *Note of interest at bottom of page read. Recently (Oct. 1983 we have learned the name of I. Sebastia's fther. I. Sebastian was the son of Hans Georg and Magdalena Rheyer. This information was received in a letter dated Oct. 30, 1983, from Willard Z. Francis.

But want to expand on what it tells about Lehn's Cemetery and location and history abit. Just in case some of the persons on the Royer Listserver live in the area and can check to see who might be buried next to Philip . Imight even post the photos from the book and a map of the location if someone is interested.I believe I have a large folder with Landis / Hernley relation ship packed away. I will check for it for more Hernley info for you.Rick

race w. Evens that has visited my site is a descendant of both o Sr. and Jr. Philip. Her email addressed bounced when I sent her a message. So Grace if you are a subscriber with a different email address you might beable to lend some more info on these Philips. I believe she lives in Lancaster, Pa.Rick

I have a copy of the Lehn Cemetary listings. It reads "Elizabeth Reyer July 1729 Sept. 24 1804". No mention of a maiden name.-

Again it appears that Francis' book is the authority. There should be a church record perhaps of the marriage. Shouldn't there exist somewhere primary proof that Christian Hernley the father of Elizabeth Hernley b. 1729 (who married Philip Royer sr.) even existed? A church record with his name on it? A will? A deed? Gravestone? Ship passenger list? What farm did he own? Who got it when he died? Did he get it from the Penns? Certainly there should be a scrap of primary evidence somewhere, yet I am drawing blanks.

Yes, there are 6 ROYERs in the Osage County Cemeteries book. The men are: B. ROYER, b. 23 Sep 1833, d. 9 Oct 1911 (B. may have been "Balthazar") FrankWesley ROYER, b. 28 Oct 1872, d. 20 Oct 1952 (my grandfather) M. Royer, b. 5 Oct 1834, d. 5 Oct 1907 (my great-grandfather)

Also there is Walter C. ROYER, b. 1879, d. 1955 (no known relationship to me)

Re: M. ROYER, he was born Michel ROYER in Soufflenheim, Alsace, France. His name changed to Michael Wesley ROYER after he immigrated. He came to the U.S. with cousin Baltz in 1852 through New Orleans, then to St. Louis, Illinois, and finally Kansas. He also sent for brother Francois (Frank) to live with him in Illinois. The only place I've found any possible matches with your research so far has been a link of Barb's Index: <http://www.cet.com/~royerr/04.htm> where it mentions Nicholas, Michael and Bartrum living in Sufflenheim, Alsace, in 1834. The quote does not elaborate any further information that I can see.Should I open some dead-ends that exist with my French connection, I will pass it on. If somehow you see a connection with my line, I can provide a little more ancestry for Michel.

Did a little more browsing on your site and found a Cemetery link. Guess I'd better give you my complete list for Osage County, Kansas. Some of this is from the "Osage County Cemeteries & Old Solders & Obituaries" of the Topeka Genealogical Society, but with my corrections as was necessary.

Do you have any information on Christian and Maria? I have never found Christian's parents yet, I think I might know who they are but I am not positive. Last night I was up all night because I found out who Christian' s first wife was and I could not sleep until I found out as much about her as possible. It has so great since I went on line the family I have gained. It is nice to know another cousin.

Did you ever run across Christian Bauman's parents names in any of your research. He was born c 1755 and died in Ephrata Twp. Lancaster Co. Pa on 7-4-1815. I know he was married to Sarah Fahnestock bef 1782 first before he married Maria Royer. Sarah was b 4-30-1758 in Ephrata Twp and died 1-30-1792 in Ephrata Twp. She was the d/o Peter Fahnestock and Elizabeth Bolthouser. Their are 3 Christian's that could be him, and I can't find out which one is my Christian. Christian and Sarah had three children and maybe four, the ones I know for certain are Elizabeth, birth and death date unkown Benjamin, b c 1784 Joseph, b c 1789 and I was told there was a child named Daniel but that I don't know for sure. The Bauman family is my mother's side of the family, her father was Jacob Bauman, he was a gg grandson of Christian and Maria. Adam is Christian and Maria son that he is descended from. Thanks

My family name is Cabuche - amazingly rare in the entire world. I've been trying to trace my family roots - the origin is likely French or Spanish. Your site indicates the following:

Unfortunately, I don't know what all the numbers and symbols mean. It appears Charlotte Cabuche gave birth to Barbe Royer on Feb 19/87 and could be a cousin of mine. I would love to get in touch with her. I have been living in Canada since 1958, but still have a sister and cousins living in England.Would you be good enough to explain what the numbers and symbols mean and let me know how to go about getting in touch with Charlotte and/or her family.

What a wonderful insight of the family, I am very grateful for the work that has been done by those interested in preserving the heritage of our ancestors. I am also working on the Bauman side as you know they came from Germany also, my goal is before I pass on to the great land above I will have all of my research in a book for my children to carry forward. I have seen the pictures you have posted . I have also seen the ROYER webpage of course. Yesterday I sent new informations to Mark Mendenhall because I found in an other archive new documents concerning the RHEYERs. These were some additional facts not important changes. Besides of this I'll send Mark some copies with snail mail. I think Mark will send you the news some days later. Then you can use them for your official ROYER webpage. Something I want to say: Do you agree that I make a link from my webpage to the ROYER webpage. Then people who visit my page can see your ROYER page. I'll do so to Mark Mendenhalls page. And another think I discussed with Mark Mendenhall. He thinks that it would be good to mention my full name or address (not only Winfried S. like in a warrent of arrest).Perhaps you can make a link to my webpage, now in english. I do not fear to be bombarded with questions or e-mails by other RHEYER descendants. Finally I`m a little bit proud that I could help you finding the true ancestors and their origins. If someone wants to visit my webpage (http://www.germany.net/teilnehmer/101/9945/index.html ) or will send me a mail, I would enjoy it. I know it was well meaned by Mark and you to protect my mail-box. First I had the same thoughts. But now I have changed my mind. I like the contact with foreign people and I like to help them. That's enough for today. I think we'll come in contact later. Perhaps someone of the ROYERs plan to visit Germany, where the RHEYERs lived. Perhaps you?? Looking for ancestry of Lucy ROYER, born about 1815, prob in Virginia, married 26 June 1835 to Zedekiah STEVENS in Logan County, Ohio.Any suggestions on searching the VA. Royers would be greatly appreciated.I found your webpage while surfing for ROYER information. I am trying to locate the ancestry of my Lucy ROYER. I do not have much to go on, so I thought that I would ask all the Royer researchers first, to see if I can get lucky.

Her birthplace shows VA. off of a census. I would not believe that 100 %, however. Her husband was born in 1815, so I figure her birthdate somewhere around there. She was married 26 June, 1835 in Logan County, Ohio. I figure that some of her family may have come this far west also? Her first son, my ancestor, was born 2 March 1839, also in Logan County, Ohio. Their family then moved on to Warren Co., IL. Her husband Zedekiah STEVENS born 8 May 1815 in Ohio, died in Mahaska County, Iowa. I do not know yet when she died or where.

Are they many ROYERS in Virginia in the early 1800's? Seems like there were a lot of ROYERS in PA. where most of my other relatives came from (other lines). Any suggestions that you might have would be extremely helpful. The children of Zedekiah Stevens and Lucy Royer Stevens are as follows, and I will put my direct lineage on a 2nd email. Hope to hear from you when your time allows.

EMAIL [email protected]

They were in the 1850 census with sons Jacob, John, Christian, David and daughters Anna and Susanna. These may not be in our line but they seem to be.

The current flurry of messages concerning Christian Royer and Margaret Kyger prompts me to ask if anyone has heard of a Christian Royer, born about 1776, who married Elizabeth Levenston (Livingston) in Somerset County, PA, probably in, or just before, 1800. Christian and Elizabeth moved to Tuscarawas County, OH, where he died in 1827. Sure would appreciate knowing where this Christian came from -- his family.

I am looking to start tracing my fathers family. Charles Walter Royer now lives in St. Louis. Mo. He originally grew up around Decatur, Ill. His fathers name was Walter. Ant Royer's around the Decatur, Ill area might be a good start. He now has 3 sons. Steven Charles Royer, Donald William Royer, and Robert John Royer. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Benjamin S. Royer, son of William C., mothers name was Sarah Shoemaker instead of Anne Simmington. Benjamin was born 1847. He died in 1876. He had 9 children, we have 7 of them. We are looking for the other 2 names. Thank you for your help.

You had asked me how to get a copy of the book "Daniel E. Royer and Mary Elizabeth Cockburn-descandants and allied families",which was compiled by Delores M (Royer) Burdick of Illinois. I have been searching for an email address for her,but to no avail.I also checked the internet white pages with no luck. Did you ever get a chance to communicate with her? I know that originally only 76 books were made in 1992 but I dont know if there were any reprints were made. It contains info about descendants of Daniel E Royer, born July 12, 1800 He was a son of Jacob (b.nov15 1771)who was a son of Daniel (b. 1741) who was a son of Johann (Emig) and Catherine Rheyer. Emig was a son of Sebastian Mathias and Agnes Flockirth,Emig being a son of Hans George Rheyer. Sorry about the length of this correspondence.Hope you can find the time to read it.

I have just found you, this web site, and hopefully new information on my family. I left a message a while back on the Royer Genforum. Unfortunately, I had almost no information - just a name. Samantha J. Royer who on 8/15/1858 in Rockingham County, Virginia married Joseph Stover. My great-grandmother was a Stover. This was about all I had. Forunately for me, a Daniel Royer left a message, and I have just found that message. The lineage I was given was that of:
Sebastian Royer - born ca 1676 Germany m. Felice Nignaw - born ca 1681 Germany
Samuel Royer - born 1708 Germany m. Julianne Lamphere - born 1710 Germany
John Royer - born 1743 in Pennsylvania m. Marie Elizabeth Rohr - born 1744 in Pennsylvania
Peter Royer - born 10/19/1774 in Pennsylvania m. Elizabeth Kaylor - born 1774 in Virginia
Samuel V. Royer (11/12 or 12/11/1802) in Rockingham County, Virginia m. Harriet Propst - born 1808 in Virginia
Samantha J. Royer - born Rockingham County, Virginia m. Joseph Stover on 8/15/1858 in Rockingham
Thomas M. Stover - born ca 1866 in Rockingham County, Virginia m. Josie V. Fry (3/21/1864 - 10/9/1888) married, born and lived in Rockingham.
Here I have absolutely no more info on Thomas - he disappeared best I can figure. Josie and Thomas had at least one child, a daughter, my great-grandmother. Her name was Idella Gertrude "Gert" Stover Yancey. She was born 10/9/1887 - and her mother passed away at the year mark of her daughter's birth. This daughter was partially raised in McGaheysville (Rockingham County), by Alice McGahey (of the town's namesake family), and the other part was by her father. I would ASSUME that he remarried given his young age at the time of his wife's death, but have no proof - I simply can't find him.
Regardless - my great-grandmother, Gert, married Clyde Arlington Yancey in Frederick County, Virginia - at the residence of her Dovel family. Do not know if this was maternal or paternal. They lived in Rockingham, but did move to Frederick County, where they remained for the rest of their lives - and the rest of the family has done the same.
If you can share more info on my Royer heritage, please advise. I would appreciate any little piece of the puzzle!
Sorry for the length of this note - now I must check out your web site. I am also joining the Royer mailing list.
Note From Rick Royer( I saw the marriage many years ago at an LDS Family History Center. Upon more research and letter writing I found out that the person that sent it into the church supplied no documentation, and letter sent to her descendants came back only with the notation that she had died abt. I beleive 1982 and that they could not provide anymore information. )
-Sebastian Royer - born ca 1676 Germany m. Felice Nignaw - born ca 1681 Germany

I am brand new to this list. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have found a wealth of information on Rick Royer's Web site - but this will take awhile for me to get my mind in order to proceed.

I would like to let ALL members know that the majority of my families (on all sides) have come from their original homes to Rockingham County, Virginia. I lived about an hour away from Rockingham - and will be traveling there in the next few weeks.

I will gladly obtain any information you desire from the courthouse and quite a few cemeteries. I have seen many Royer's there, unfortunately I did not have enough info to go on to know to whom I may be related.

If you would like to have something looked up, copied, etc., I will be glad to do so. Until then - can someone please help me gather my thoughts on my lineage. It looks as though it is as follows:

Sebastian and Felice Nignaw Royer Samuel and Julianne Lamphere Royer John and Marie Elizabeth Rohr Royer Peter and Elizabeth Kaylor Royer Samuel V. and Harriet Propst Royer Samantha J. Royer and Joseph Stover Thomas M. Stover and Josie V. Fry Idella Gertrude "Gert" Stover and Clyde Arlington Yancey Berlyn Sinclair and Katherine Rebecca Sandy Yancey Thomas Sandy and Judy Estelle Clowser Yancey Me Again, any info would be greatly appreciated!

While search military records I found a site that let me search for photos of Royers in the Civil War. Six rewsults were obtained. About a week later I received from them photocopies of those photos that I could order for about ten dollars each from them. The photo copies were good enough for me that I did not feel the ten dollar fee was justified. However if one of these is you ancestor I would suggest that you order the photo for your family archive.Wish I could find the link however to share with you. Will keep looking for it.

I was wondering if there is anywhere on your site that you would put a link to my Landis web site. The Royer's are two branches away from the Johannes Landis tree. I have Sebastian Royer listed as the head of a tree and that page links them to your site. When you have time, check it out and see if you would like a logo or anything on the Royer page. There is puzzlement in our family as to whether we are descended from Christian Royer, son of Johann George, or Christopher Royer, son of Johann George. All the newest information I can find says we do not come from Christian - because things don't match. Some in our family still insist it was Christian. The trouble is,I can find NO information on Christopher, son of Johann Georg. Is there any information on his wife or descendants? I don't have my lists in front of me, but I believe our ancestor had children named Henry and George. We are descended from Henry. (I hope I have this right - when I get home, if it is wrong, I will let you know.)

Can you offer any dates for the people your are interested in? Locations? I may be able to do some research. I am doing research on the Royer family in southwest Louisiana.

Back from Lancaster

I did some research over the holidays. Annie Hallacher the wife of Benjamin Royer is the daughter of Charles and Anna Hallacker according the will extract I could find. Siblings include Elizabeth Nissley, Catherine Gerber, Sarah Michael, Mary Fahnestock, Susan Landis, and Samuel.
Elizabeth Graybill (Benjamin H. Royer) is the daughter of Daniel Graybill and Maria Hollinger. (I have those line if anyone is interested.)
The Hernley books and all the information I could find (or not find) concludes that Elizabeth Hernley's (Philip Royer sr.) father Christian came over here without a ship's record, bought land with no deed, paid no taxes, was never in a census, and died without a will or any other heirs.
I found a marriage date for Benjamin Royer and Mary Landis in the Trinity Lutheran Church as 12-12-1833. This makes their first 3 children born out of wedlock or they got married before in a different church.
There was also a death of a Michael Royer recorded as 5-8-1836. He was 62 years, 7 months and 24 days old. Can you place him?

Other marriages (I did not check this information against THE BOOK )
Elizabeth Royer to Samuel Buckhalter 11-14-1839
Jacob Royer to Mary Neff 12-13-1838
Samuel Royer to Magdalena Longnecker 8-31-1837
Abraham Royer died 8-17-1847 89y 4m 9d
John Reyer to Rebecca Lein 6-9-1825
Henry Royer to Elizabeth Steiner 3-5-1816
Jacob Royer to Catherine Landis 11-15-1831
