Current Research Topics

August C. Fangmeyer and Mary Weigert

We are researching the family of August C. Fangmeyer who is purportedly from Lengerich, Hannover, Germany.  His wife, Mary Weigert, was born in St. Louis, Missouri.  August immigrated in 1883 when he was 12 years old.  I had a wonderful person contact me recently regarding a possible new lead.   I am very excited by the possibility that my August C. Fangmeyer may actually be Clemens August Fangmeyer, born in Langen on January 8, 1871 and baptized in Lengerich on January 9, 1871.  I have Barbara Salibi to thank for this particular lead.   I am amazed at the willingness of complete strangers to help on what seems to be an impossible quest.  I now have to take another trip out to Illinois to see if I can find his naturalization papers.

Joseph Kazmierski and Stella (?)

Joseph is the father of Walter Kazmierski, Curt's maternal grandfather.  According to family members he hails from the Ukraine.  We need to determine who his siblings and parents are and where in the Ukraine his family originated.  He married a woman named Stella on whom we have no information at this time.

Martin Chemchick and Frances Duda

Martin is the father of Mary Chemchick, Curt's maternal grandmother. The surname Chemchick is most likely an Americanization of their original Ukranian name. Chemchick does not appear anywhere outside of the immediate family.  Frances Duda was Martin's wife.  Duda appears to be a very popular Polish and Ukranian surname.  I have recently had the pleasure of being contacted by a member of the Chemchick family.  Hopefully we can come up with more information on the Chemchick side of the family together!

William Brengle

We have two William Brengle's in our family. The first is William Curtis Brengle who is Curt's paternal great-grandfather. The second is William Edgar Brengle who is Curt's paternal grandfather. We are attempting to locate specific information on these individuals as well as continue our research into the Brengle family.

About Us

Curt and Britt first met when Britt was just 4 years old.  Our fathers played softball together and we had many opportunities to see each other.  Britt even had a childhood crush on Curt "way back when".  We now have three lovely children: Mark, age 12; Jessica, age 10; and Christopher, 5 yrs.  We thoroughly enjoy our children and spend as much time together as possible.  We also have one dog named Trinity (rottie) .  We lost our beloved Bruiser (Curt's Rottie) in September at the age of 10 to sudden illness.  We lost Fritz to Subaortic Stenosis at the age of 14 months.  We lost Gizmo to sudden illness this year. We will remember them always.  We are now completely settled in our home near Westminster, Maryland.  The kids are looking forward to the new school year and everyone is much more relaxed here in "the country".

Britt had a wonderful surprise today.  We were contacted by Britt's brother, James Bushnell.  As amazing as it seems, we all live in Maryland and have never met each other before.  Jim is in the military and has traveled extensively over the years.  He has a wonderful website which shows pictures of many of his adventures.  We plan to meet in person and hopefully start some family ties which have been sorely missing on the Coffey side of our family!  Thank you, God, for giving us this bright spot in this time of cares and concerns.

Personal Interests

As a family we enjoy camping, bowling, swimming, hiking, reading and spending time together.  Curt enjoys movies and everything about TV (ER/paramedic and forensic science shows on Discovery Channel and TLC, also loves spaghetti westerns and just about any movie with a plot).  Britt loves to read (mostly Sci-Fi and mystery), loves video games and has caught the "genealogy bug".  Mark and Jessica are eagerly awaiting J.K. Rowling's sixth book on Harry Potter.  They have read each of the first five books and seen all three movies. Christopher is starting first grade this year and asks daily "When does school start?  Is it tomorrow?".  All the children love riding bikes, scooters and climbing trees in their new and improved yard.
