    Arlene Marie Scroggins, 77, of Springfield, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at her home.

    Arlene was born December 9, 1934 in Malden, MA, the daughter of Charles and Esther Nagel Jacobs. She married Donald Scroggins, Sr. on August 8, 1954 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1979.

    Arlene was a hard-working, devoted mother. She worked for Lewis Memorial Christian Village for 32 years. She enjoyed shopping and going to yard sales.

    She was also preceded in death by her parents.

    She is survived by her three sons, Donald (wife, Tracy) Scroggins, Jr. of Greenview, IL, Mitchell Scroggins and Mark (wife, Melba) Scroggins, all of Springfield; two daughters, Cheryl (companion, Scott Young) Netznik of Springfield and Marlene (husband, Walter) Gudgel of Pawnee; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine from NH; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

    Mother of local woman is dead

    Mrs. Mary I. Scroggins, 58 years old, of Springfield, died on Monday, August 16 at St.

    John's Hospital. She was a former resident of Pawnee and the mother of Mrs. Janet Denning [40250:K]of Petersburg.

    Mrs. Scroggins was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky, and has been a resident of Springfield

    most of her life. Her husband [40237:K] preceded her in death on June 13, 1969.

    Surviving are three sons, Donald Ray [42792:K], Walter Lee [40236:K], and John

    Robert [40249:K], all of Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Denning of Petersburg and Mrs. Bonnie Jean Ward [40252:K] of Pawnee; father Perry Nunn of

    Virden; one sister, Mrs. Drucilla Dinardo of Springfield; twenty-one grandchildren; one

    great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 100 p.m. at Vancil Memorial

    Chapel in Springfield. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.

    PAWNEE, IL - Walt Gudgel, 62, passed away at 9:27 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center.

    Walt was born Sept. 21, 1951, in Springfield, the son of Charles and Virginia Piper Gudgel. He married Marlene Scroggins [52402:K] on Dec. 9, 1972, in Springfield.

    Walt was employed by Capitol Ready Mix for 20 years. He was known for being dedicated to his family.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Gudgel; one sister, Doris Morgan; and aunt and uncle, Eugene and Doris Colvin.

    He is survived by his wife, Marlene [52402:K] of Pawnee; one son, Walter [52405:K] (wife, Linda) Gudgel of Pawnee; two daughters, Samantha L. Donahue [52406:K] and Sabrina K. [52407:K](husband, Chaz) Otken, both of Pawnee; eight grandchildren: Sean, Virginia, Stormie, Chelsey, Dallas, Chase, Alexandria and Lucas; and siblings: Charles (wife, Connie) Gudgel of Pawnee, Carl Gudgel of Springfield, and Linda Smith of Springfield.

    Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

    Family and friends will gather at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. prior to processing to Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee for burial with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
