ARRIVAL OF R.M.S. AORANGI, FROM LONDON
The New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. Aorangi. Captain Sutcliffe, from London, arrived off the Heads at 6.30 last night, but the weather being thick did not get in till 9.15 pm. The voyage has been a pleasant one, and all the passengers have arrived in good health. Entertainments of various kinds were introduced, the concerts being under the leadership of Mr Lee, the organist of tho Melbourne Town Hall. Excepting that Mr Wills is now third, and Mr McRay fourth officer, and Mr Hannah surgeon, the personnel of the officers is  unchanged. The Aorangi left Plymouth at 1.30 pm on 30th July, and arrived at Madeira on 3rd August; left at 4.60 pm, and reached Capetown on the 19th at 6 pm; sailed next day, and made Hobart at 9.15 am on the 8th instant; made another start at 4.30 pm same day, and came in as above. She experienced about the ordinary run of weather, being adverse in the vicinity of Table Bay. The voyage occupied - reckoned to 6.30 pm - Mail time, 43d 17h 4m;  stoppages, 1d 5h 35m; steaming time, 42d 11h 29m. Her best day's run was 837 miles. The Aorangi brings 250 bags of mails and a very large cargo, having no less than 3055 tons on board, about 1000 of which is for this port. She will probably leave here on Friday for Auckland. We have to thank Mr Kane, purser, for files and reports.
