The GOTHIC departed London 21 December 1898 and arrived in Wellington, via Plymouth, Teneriffe, Capetown and Hobart, on 7 February 1899. Captain William Kidley was in command.

GOTHIC, FROM LONDON.

The favourite White Star liner Gothic, Captain Kidley, from London, via Plymouth, Teneriffe, Capetown, and Hobart dropped anchor in the stream at 3. 30 yesterday afternoon. Dr. James (Health Officer), found .everything on board satisfactory, and at 4.35 pm she was berthed at the Queen's Wharf. Of the voyage Mr. Inman (purser) reports us follows:— The Gothic left Plymouth at 2.57 pm on 24th December, had moderate to fresh winds with fine weather across the Bay of Biscay and until reaching Teneriffe at 10 am on 29th December. After a stay of 16 hours for coaling, &c, the steamer left again at 2am the following day, crossed the equator on 5th January, in long 10.5 W, and experienced fresh trade winds and fine weather to arrival at Capetown at 2.16 pm on 13th January. Sailed again at 11.14 pm and met with moderate to strong winds to lat 45.33 S and long 127 E, thence to Hobart light breezes and showery weather, arriving sit that port at 8.42 am on 1st February, discharged 900 tons of cargo, and proceeded on to Wellington at 4.53 pm on 3rd February, met with strong winds, increasing to a fresh gale from SSW until Monday, thence light variable winds and fine weather to arrival in port as above. Dining the passage games, entertainments, and other amusements were organised and successfully carried out. Particulars of her cargo have already been published. Mr. Summers, late of the Cymric, has succeeded Mr. Hill as second officer, the latter having been transferred to the Atlantic service, and Dr Sutcliffe has replaced Dr Gabites as medical officer, otherwise the staff is the same as last voyage. The Gothic sails for Lyttelton about Tuesday or Wednesday next, and leaves Wellington finally for London on 2nd March.
