GOTHIC

The GOTHIC departed London on 15 April 1896 and arrived in Wellington via Plymouth, Teneriffe, Capetown and Hobart, on 31 May 1896, with Captain William H Kidley in command.

GOTHIC, FROM LONDON.

The ss Gothic left Plymouth on the 18th April, at 3.19 pm, and experienced fine weather to Teneriffe, where she arrived at 6.30 am on the 23rd; left again at noon same day, and had fine weather for a few days, with moderate N.E. winds, crossed the Equator on tho 29th in longitude 11 deg 41min W. and arrived at Capetown on the 8th May at 8.30 am; sailed at 4.22 same day, and arrived at Hobart at 7.J8 am on the 27th; left at 4.50 pm the some day, passed Farewell Spit at 4.30 am yesterday, and arrived here at 1.30 pm same day. The Health Officer's report being satisfactory, the steamer was berthed at the Queen's Wharf at 3 pm. The voyage was a particularly fine one and uneventful. The run from Hobart wharf to the Wellington wharf was accomplished in the excellent time of 3 days 21 hours 11 min. The Gothic landed 10 passengers at Teneriffe, 217 at Capetown, and 40 at Hobart. The usual amusements were indulged in during the voyage. The Gothic's cargo and movements have already been published. She takes in here about 6600 carcases meat and 7000 legs, 500 bales wool, and 300 casks tallow for London. Levin and Co are the local agents.
