WHAKATANE, FROM LONDON.

The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Whakatane, from London, Capetown, and Hobart, arrived at 7 o'clock this morning. She left Plymouth on 26th June and reached Teneriffe on 2nd July. After crossing the Equator very heavy weather was experienced until arriving at Capetown on 22nd July. From Capetown bad weather was continuous half way across the Southern Ocean. So bad was it that frequently the ship was unable to steam more than six knots. Hobart was reached on 16th August, and after discharging 300 tons of cargo the vessel left next day for Wellington.
