John (Jan) Dorlandt
John (Jan) Dorlandt, son of
Lambert Janse Dorlandt and Hermina Janse Peters,
was baptised on March 20, 1681 in the Reformed Dutch Church in
Brooklyn, New York. John was first married, about 1699, to Mary
(Marretje) Van Der Veer. While living in Brooklyn, John and Mary are
known to have had at least two children, who were baptised in the
Reformed Dutch Church. Mary died before 1718 and John again
married about 1718 to Barbara Aukes Van Nuys, who was baaptised on
April 12, 1685 in the Reformed Dutch Church. The exact date of his
marriage to his second wife, Barbara is not known. Though six of his
children were baptised in the Reformed Dutch Church on Staten Island,
the baptismal records only the last three contain which contain the
mother's name as Barbara Aukes. This leaves the question wheter the
preceding thee children were her offspring, or the offspring of Mary,
the first wife. Barbara died after 1746. John died after 1749.
Bayless transcript of the baptismal records (page 375 of his "Richmond Co.") renders them as thus:
