ANCESTORS OF BENJAMIN WEEKS AND JEMIMAH HARRISON WEEKS

I am researching the ancestors of Benjamin Weeks and Jemimah Harrison Weeks who were both born in South Carolina about 1790.

Benjamin first shows up on the Dale County Alabama Census in 1830. Dale County was created in December of 1824 from parts of Henery, Covington, Barbor and Pike Counties. Unfortunately fires in 1864 and 1884 destroyed the records at the Dale County Courthouse.

The 1830 Census list Benjamin as head of household and being 40-50 years of age. It list 1 female 40-50; 2 males under 5; 2 males 10-15; 1 male 15-20; 1 male 20-30; 1 female under 5; 1 female 5-10. Benjamin and Jemimah lived in the part of Dale County that was to become Coffee County. Coffee County was created from a part of Dale County in December of 1841. The first County Courthouse at Welborn, Alabama was destroyed by fire in 1851. The County seat is now located in Elba, Alabama.

The 1850 Coffee County Census list Benjamin Weeks as head of household and 60 years of age. His wife Jemimah also 60 years of age, a daughter Abitha age 22; a son Jackson age 21; a son Hiram age 18; and a son Harmon age 12. Living next door is James M Weeks and his family which leads me to believe this might also have been a son.

The ages of children on the 1830 Dale County Census leads me to believe that there were older children that were no longer living at home during the 1850 Coffee County Census. I believe these were Isaac & William (who first show up in the 1840 Dale County Census), Bartimus, James M, Joseph Dickson, and Washington(who first show up in the 1850 Coffee County Alabama Census).

My Great-Great Grandfather was Washington Weeks who married Mary Ellen Fleming. They had children Andrew Jackson, Martha, Jerry, Eliza, John Dunkin Carrie and Sallie. Jackson was my Great Grandfather.

Jackson Weeks married Nancy Plasceda Pierce, who was called Plassedie. They had children Early, Gus, Pierce, Dunk, Mertie, Minnie D., Dock W., Warren W., Sallie, and Jack.

I am intersted in anything anyone has that could help me in my research.

Do you have any new information to share? If you would like for me to add names, or dates of marriages, births or deaths please email me. I would like to start a section of family stories. If you have any family stories you would like to share email them to me and I will add them.
