Cemetery Locations / Pictures

This website is devoted to locating / photographing the cemeteries of Dutchess County and complements the fantastic web sites above, which lists the grave transcriptions of pre-1900 Dutchess County.   The two sites above link to each other.  Searching one searches the other.

This page is a work in progress, probably never ending!    Please contact me for any comments, locations, and especially corrections!

The following Town pages list the cemeteries as found on the above linked web sites.   The source for the transcriptions come from the 1924 Poucher book or the Van Alstyne 1903 book (see below)   I have located the cemeteries from either current maps, 1867 Beers map or by visiting the sites.   All of the data listed for the cemeteries (# of graves, dates of tombstones) are directly from the referenced books, and as such, is dated to the time of their books.

Please see below on comments on the maps.

MAPS
Many of the cemeteries can be found on government topographical maps found on http:\\terraserver.microsoft.com.
Type in a location, example "Pleasant Valley, NY".   The search will retrieve a choice of topographical maps or satillite images.   Choose Topographical maps.   There are many parameters you can now use.   I find choosing LARGE is the best way to find the area you want, even though it takes more time for each map to upload.   Each time you click on a position in the map, you will zoom in.   Churches and cemeteries are spelled out, or identified with a cross.
