A Collection of FULLER family letters from 1846 to 1865
In researching my FULLER family line, I located some old letters. They are from my great-great-great-great-grandfather Zachariah FULLER Sr. and his family.
The letters talk about Massachusetts in the 1840s and upheaval that drives a family to move out west to Wisconsin. They tell of the loss of sons and brothers. They talk of everyday struggles with farming and poverty.
Read of the realities of being a soldier in the Civil War. These letters convey the reality of being a union soldier and the suffering that came with that duty.
I would like to share these letters with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
I also want to say a big THANK-YOU to Dan for photocopying these letters for me!
In hopes of keeping as true to the letters as possible I have tried to transcribe them exactly as written. Then since this makes for a long and tedious read, I have also edited them and included punctuation where it was missing. I include both the un-retouched and the retouched versions, to hopefully will insure I haven't changed the context in any way.
There are 39 letters, and I have put them in order of date, except for two which weren't clearly dated, those I put in the aproximate spot.
I have numbered each letter ( long hand ), and this should make it easier if you leave off at one to use the search feature to find it again. If I figure out a fairly easy way to link to each page, without needing to know a ton of HTML or making a list of every page, I will do that. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments on that or anything else on this site.
