Border Reiver DNA - Top Haplotypes

This web page shows the 25 most common haplotypes in the Border Reiver DNA database,

for each of the following categories:

Top 6 Marker Haplotypes (Scientific Format)

Top 9 Marker Haplotyes (YHRD Format)

Top 12 Marker Haplotypes (Basic FTDNA Format)

Top 25 Marker Haplotypes (Extended FTDNA Format)

Top 6 Marker Haplotypes (Scientific Format)

The chart below shows the most common 6 marker haplotypes found so far in the Border Reiver DNA

database. The markers are displayed in the standard format of scientific papers - DYS19/388/390/391/392/393.

By far the most common is the Atlantic Modal Haplotype, accounting for nearly a quarter of all haplotypes.

Other common haplotypes include the modal "North Sea Celtic" haplotype (AMH except for a DYS390 value of 23),

the proposed "Scottish" haplotype (AMH except for a DYS391 value of 10), three I1a haplotypes (including one

"Ultra-Norse" haplotype, with a DYS390 value of 23), and the "Irish Sea" haplotype (14-12-25-11-14-13).

Top 9 Marker Haplotypes (YHRD Format)

The most common haplotypes in the Border Reiver DNA database, using the original

9 markers employed by the Y Chromosome Haplotype Reference Database, appear below.

These haplotypes are expressed in the standard YHRD format:

DYS19/389i/389ii/390/391/392/393/385a/385b

The top haplotypes are overwhelmingly R1b, including multiple AMH variants, and a few I1a.

The Geographical Range of each, as identified in YHRD, can be viewed by clicking on "Match Pattern".

Top 25 Marker Haplotypes (Extended FTDNA Format)

Here are the most common "extended" haplotypes, using the 25 markers

employed by FTDNA, and expressed in the FTDNA format -

DYS393/390/19/391/385a/385b/426/388/439/389i/392/389ii/458/459a/459b/455/454/447/437/448/449/464a/464b/464c/464d.

(We should note that the frequency of these haplotypes has been highly skewed by their predominance among

certain families, such as the Elliotts, the Witheringtons and others.)
