Kilted Man At Eilean Donan Castle
We met the kilted man below at Eilean Donan castle, just after he had served as a kind of "Gael In Waiting" at the wedding of a friend. As the red-faced reverend departed with a quip on his lips, and the wedding party left for their honeymoon, this fellow and his girlfriend stayed behind for a while. My wife engaged him in conversation. When she remarked on the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, he blurted out that he was fond of America and much preferred the autumns of New England. Those in Scotland don't last long enough, he said, and the colors of the foliage can't match those of the Berkshires in October. It just goes to show you that the leaves will always seem brighter on someone else's trees.
