Hooker's Bend, Tennessee, located in Hardin County, on the road from Saltillo to Savannah, is a small, unincorporated area.   It seems no one knows how the community got it's name, and if you are not familiar with the area, you will unknowingly pass it by.  No sign alerts you to the fact that you have arrived in Hooker's Bend.  No sign notifies you that you have left.   But those of us who have ties to The Bend know, for it is where the heart and spirit of our families live.  For me, it is also special because it is where my love for family history and genealogy began.

The narrow, winding road that leads to Hooker's Bend is very much like the path my ancestors traveled when they left their homes in other parts of this new country, to settle in beautiful, rolling hills of West Tennessee.  Like many other pioneers, they came seeking adventure, prosperity,  happiness, and contentment.  It is my hope and belief that most of them found those things and more.

To understand what made the early pioneers settle in this part of West Tennessee, you must experience it.  Go to Savannah or Saltillo and stand on the bank of the Tennessee to watch the cool, blue waters of the river go by;  walk the wooded paths the early settlers walked;  visit the cemeteries where our early pioneers are buried.  While you are there, if you listen very closely, the wind will whisper the hopes, dreams, adventures, and tragedies of those pioneers to you.  Be prepared to be spellbound.  You will understand, then, why my family, and many other families, came to, settled on, and fell in love with this beautiful area of Tennessee; and you will understand why we, as descendants, continue to love and be drawn to Hardin County, Tennessee.
