58. Col. William "Fightin' Billy" TIPTON^1,3,4 was born on 13 Feb 1761 in VA.¹ He died on 3 Nov 1849 in Blount Co, TN.¹ He was buried in Lakemont, Blount Co, TN, on his farm near Little River.¹ He first enlisted in military service at the age of 16. William "Fighting Billy" Tipton, was born in Shenandoah County, VA on February 13, 1761. He was severely wounded during the Rev War, but recovered and returned to VA. William moved to Greene County (NC/TN) in the Fall of 1783, presumably with his father (although they seem to have settled in different areas of what became East TN). Around 1785 he moved to Knox County, TN. There is still a Tipton Station area of south Knox County where William Tipton lived prior to moving to Blount County, TN in about 1819.

William was in Capt. Wall's Company, Col. Richard Parker's regiment and
received three wounds at Savannah, GA in 1779.

Col. William "Fightin' Billy" TIPTON and Phoebe MOORE were married in 1781.¹ Phoebe was Billy's step sister. Phoebe MOORE¹ (daughter of Dr. James MOORE and Martha Mary DENTON) was born in 1760 in Virginia. Col. William "Fightin' Billy" TIPTON and Phoebe MOORE had the following children:
