Mason County, Illinois, Cemetery
Pennsylvania Township

Leveldale Cemetery

"Leveldale Cemetery, located in Leslie Mather's Grove, in Section 29, is the only known cemetery in the township with marked graves. Unmarked graves were located at the county poor farm in Section 32, but no further information is currently available. This transcription was prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Vertus Meyer of Easton, IL, in 1980. At that time, none of the stones were still standing."  This edition was published by Havana, Illinois, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October, 1985.
In 1987 the Mason County Genealogical & Historical Society published Volume Two of Mason County, Illinois, Cemetery Inscriptions. Those transcriptions are in blue.
Cleaning of the cemetery and re-reading of the stones was started on November 15, 2004, by Patty Elmore, Dorris and Howard Bagby, and Joan Lund and her grandson, Michael Redenbaugh. New information from the stones is bolded.
It is hoped that we will eventually be able to list the stones as they appear in the cemetery. Or to provide a map to the cemetery. If you have someone who you think might be buried there, please let us know. Some of the new readings are from stones that only one corner of it showed out of the ground or there was only a foot stone left to see. We have been doing a lot of digging.

More to come. Please email me if  you think you can help with clean-up on short notice.
We need help from someone with a chain saw.
 Joan Lund
