WOMEN OF SOUTH TARANAKI, NEW ZEALAND

WOMEN OF SOUTH TARANAKI, NEW ZEALAND

These essays came from the book - "Women of South Taranaki - Their Stories - Nga Wahine Toa O Taranaki Tonga - O Ratou Korero" which Judith Johnston and myself (Christine Clement) wrote in 1993 to celebrate 100 years since Women's Suffrage was granted in New Zealand. (ISBN 0-473-02046-7). Please note that in the interests of cultural safety the Maori entries in the book have not been added to the website. There are also short historys of many womens groups in South Taranaki ie Plunket, WDFF, CWI that have not been added to the web site.

If you have a story on a South Taranaki woman that you would like to add to this list please let me know - we used the modern South Taranaki District Council boundaries and the women had to be dead to have an essay included.
