IntroductionWelcome to the Stratfull / Stratful Family Site. This site is
owned and managed by David & Sheila Thorn (nee Stratfull). We hope
you find our genealogical research of interest to you. BackgroundOur Stratfull line is descended from William Stratfield (b. abt. 1787) and Rosannah Dyer (bapt. 15 March 1789 in Marsworth, Bucks.). They married at Marsworth Parish Church on 2 January 1809. William Stratfield was a labourer. A few descendants of William Stratfield were associated with the Grand Junction Canal (later known as the Grand Union Canal), including the Aylesbury Arm (of the canal) as boatman or lock keepers. It has been noted that families over time set up residence along the length of the canal from Paddington, London in the south to Staffordshire in the north. Our Mission"To become knowledgeable about the origins and life histories of all the Stratfull / Stratful families past and present; to record that information and make it available for the enlightenment and enjoyment of current and future generations". Surname variationDue to illiteracy and poor education the surname variants are Stratfield, Stratford, Stratful and Stratfull. With a few known exceptions Stratfull came in to use in the 1850’s. The Stratful spelling was first used in 1880. To our knowledge there is only one Stratfull / Stratful family in existence today (unless you can tell us different). All known Stratfull and Stratful families around the world have been traced to these same origins in Buckinghamshire, England. It is thought that the origins probably lie in the Stratford name. There have been many Stratford families in the same area, many are believed to be descended from a Stratford who was the vicar of Hulcott in 1618. Hulcott is small hamlet near Bierton, and very close to Aylesbury, Bucks.
