Andrew Dillman, was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, October 21, 1751 [wrong] ... brought up on a farm, but later he learned the carpenter's trade and a millwright ... about 1777, he was married to Barbary Roush ... served four years in the Revolutionary war ... he was in the battles of Germantown and Brandywine, after his death his widow drew a pension ... parents of thirteen children ... in the year 1794 Andrew and his brother George emigrated to the west ... Andrew settling in Mason county (afterwards Bracken county, Kentucky) about four miles from Augusta ... rather tall and well proportioned. Dark brown hair which in after years turned silver white which with his long white beard ... a very strict temperance man and a hater of human slavery ... in religion he was a Dunker ... May 21, 1823, he complained of not feeling well and ... his spirit was gone to God who gave it ... Nov. 14, 1788 ... he met a young German girl in the road carrying a wooden paddle or shovel used by the Dutch folks in handling their bread .. in the following spring my father and Mary Bouman, the little Dutch girl ... were married ... she was born near Hagerstown, Maryland, Feb. 27, 1790 ... settled in Bracken County. In the year 1813 after the surrender of Hull at Detroit he enlisted in the Kentucky Volunteers ... at the battle of the River Thames ... after the war he settled on Bullskin creek in Clermont county, Ohio and ran a saw mill, but in a year or two returned to Bracken County to take charge of the old farm ... in the spring of 1830 he moved to Brown County, Ohio ... till September 1834, when he moved to Decatur County, Ind. ... In September 1836, he was attacked with malaria - bilious fever and died ... about five feet seven inches in height, rather stoutly built, and weighed about 175 pounds; dark eyes, dark hair and fair skin ... In December, 1843, Mother (Mary Dillman) was married again to John Alloway ... in the spring of 1852 they moved to Jasper County, Iowa ... On the 7th of May 1863, Alloway died and shortly afterward Mary Alloway returned to Indiana ... devoted Christian. Wherever her lot was cast she attached herself to some church and thus during her life had been a Dunker, United Brethren, and a Baptist ... she excelled most women of her times in spinning and weaving ... about medium height, rather slender than stout, a pleasing countenance, fair complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair that when undone fell to her heels"; "are buried in Mt. Hughes in Cass County in 1867, two children: Wilbert E. & Edway C., both of this county. "Mr. Hughes homesteaded in 1872 the farm now occupied by E.C. Hughes. At this time there was only one homestead between the Hughes homestead and Jewell City. Mr. Hughes died on East Buffalo, in Washington Township, Jewell Co., April 22, 1873." Mrs. Hughes married Magnus M. Nelson at Mt. Pleasant, Cass County, 31 Mar. 1874, two children: Viola Grace Getman & Hattie Edna (born 14 Mar. 1877, died 23 Oct. 1879), "Into this family also came a motherless little girl, two years of age. She is now Mrs. Mattie Addie of Agra, Kansas." Survivors include her husband, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 2 brothers (Samuel Dillman of Mankato and Daniel F. Dillman of Yates Center), and 12 grandchildren.
