Murphy Fork Road Cemeteries

Morgan County, Kentucky

Welcome to the Murphy Fork Road Cemeteries in Morgan County, Kentucky pages. The two cemeteries on Murphy Fork Road are "Murphy Fork Cemetery" and "Ben Murphy Cemetery" respectively. Here you will find the cemetery information such as a cemetery indexes and photographs of the majority of the gravestones in the two Murphy cemeteries located on Murphy Fork Road in Morgan County, Kentucky.

The reason for my interest and decision to furnish the cemetery information on our web page is because my ancestors John Murphy and Nancy Ransome and several of their descendants are buried there. As the oral legend states, John Murphy and Nancy Ransome unmarked graves are at the Northwest corner where the Rose family barn stood.

To give due credit for  the actual compiling of the cemetery information that you will find on these web pages must go to my cousins William Murphy and his son Douglas Murphy. They did all the surveying, indexing and photographing of the two cemeteries in August 2001. Also, to assist in the preparation of the cemetery information was obtained from the book "Wolfe County Cemeteries 1860 - 1993, Volume II". This research was published by Carole Bays of Dayton, Ohio in 1992.

Murphy Fork Cemetery

Murphy Fork Cemetery is located on Murphy Fork Road, Morgan County, Kentucky across from the oldest house in Morgan County. The cemetery is located on the west side of the road near the south end of the farm, and sits on the top of hill. Mr. Jess Lawson the current owner of the farm where the Ben Murphy Cemetery is located informed us that this cemetery has a easement for public access.

As stated above, across the road from the old log house at the Northwest corner of the barn is where my ancestors John Murphy and Nancy Ransom are buried. The old barn has been replaced by another several years back. We can only hope that John and Nancy's bodies were not disturbed if the information handed down is accurate. We were told that the old log house was the home of my ancestor William Murphy, John's son.

The family surnames that you will find at the Murphy Fork Cemetery are:

BARKER, BARNETT, BUSH, FORTUNE, GOAD, HALSEY, HARVEY, HENSLEY, HUNTER, LAWSON, MANNING, MURPHY, NICKELL, NOBLE, PHIPPS, PRICE, ROBINSON, ROSS, and TAULBEE.

The Murphy Fork Cemetery page will furnish you with information such as a layout of the cemetery and a index with the inscription information which will lead you to the photographs of the majority of the gravestones in the cemetery.

Ben Murphy Cemetery

Ben Murphy Cemetery has a easement for public access located across the road from Jess Lawson's trailer home at 2590 Murphy Fork Road.  Actually, Ben Murphy Cemetery is located at the top field and farm of Pat Murphy Finch. Pat is the granddaughter of Ben Murphy.

The cemetery can not be seen from Murphy Fork Road, and is located on the west side of the road at the top of the hill behind the barn. The barn is hard to see from the road although you can see the cemetery from behind the barn.

The family surnames that you will find at the Ben Murphy Cemetery are:

Directions for Murphy Fork Road Cemeteries

Murphy Fork Road is located on Route #2 (old County Road 2489), Murphy Fork Road, Morgan County, Kentucky and it runs North and South. For people who are unfamiliar with the area the North approach is the best way to go. Murphy Fork Road is off of highway 460 approximately 5 miles South East of Ezel, KY and a mile West of Mize, KY. Either way you approach it you will be at the North end of Murphy Fork Road and you must turn South. The reason I say this is the best way to go is because there is a Murphy Fork Road sign. The South end of Murphy Fork Road does not have a road sign.

When you turn off of highway 460 onto Murphy Fork Road you will be about a mile from Murphy Fork Cemetery. Be looking for a trailer home and the old log house sitting next to each other on your left "East" hand side of the road. Continue down the road to the red brick ranch house on your left "East" hand side of the road. The Murphy Fork Cemetery easement is located straight across the road on your right "West" hand side near the south end of the farm (This is were you can park to visit the cemetery), and sits on the top of hill.

To reach the Ben Murphy Cemetery you would continue down the road for about another mile. Be looking for  the trailer home of Jess Lawson at 2590 Murphy Fork Road on your left "East" hand side of the road. The Ben Murphy Cemetery easement is located straight across the road on your right "West" hand side at the top of the hill behind the barn. The barn is hard to see from the road although you can see the cemetery from behind the barn.
