Kenneth S. Abney

Kenneth S. Abney, 71, Gravois Mills, formerly of Marshfield, passed from this life peacefully Friday, April 27, 2007, in Jefferson City. He was born May 31, 1935, to parents Grover and Ressie (Ridge) Abney in West Plains.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Mamie Abney; his beloved second wife, Tressie Abney; parents, Grover and Ressie Abney; sister, Maxine White; brothers, Grover, Dean, Richard and Ernest; and grandson, Lee.

Kenneth leaves behind his new bride, Barbara (Clines) Abney of the home; daughter, Wanda Davis and husband Paul of Mammoth Springs, Ark., Misty Hoover, Fair Grove, and Kathy Petrie and son Kenneth Gene, both of Colorado; stepchildren Bobby Clines, Oklahoma, and Helen Nash, Gravois Mills; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters and spouses, J.R. and Vickie Gibbs, Marshfield, Steven and Debbie Hodges of Springfield; brothers and spouses, Albert and Sharon Abney, Troy and Doris Abney, all of Springfield, Clifford and Ruth Abney, Texas, and Danny and Debra Abney of Republic; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were Tuesday, May 1, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Owsley and Rev. James Crawford officiating, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home of Marshfield. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield.




Kimberly Ann Abner

 Kimberly Ann Abner, 32, of St. Albans, went home with our Lord and Savior on May 13, 2006. She fought a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born Feb. 12, 1974, in Lakenheath, England, she is the daughter of Charles and Aura Shannon of St. Albans. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles W. Shannon Jr.; her great-grandmother, Elizabeth Ellen Cobb; and her great-grandfather, Gus Cobb. Kim was a 1992 graduate of St. Albans High School and attended West Virginia State University. She was a former employee of Thomas Memorial Hospital and a member of Gateway Church of Christ. Kim was full of life and laughter and always found a way to keep those around her strong. She is survived by her loving husband of 12 years, Christian �Chris� Abner; son, Clayton Christian Abner, at home; parents, Charles and Aura Shannon; sister, Sarah Elizabeth Shannon; nephew, Derik Bryce Johnson, all of St. Albans; mother-in-law, Dolly Fortney of St. Albans; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Mae Shannon of St. Albans; uncles, Russell L. Shannon and wife, Angie, of St. Albans, Jerome �Jerry� W. Shannon and Charlie Smoke of Mobile, Ala.; cousins, Chris Shannon and wife, Holli, of Winfield, Melissa Cavender and husband, Brandon, of Culloden; maternal grandparents, Samuel and Janice Curry of Charlotte, N.C.; uncle, Mark A. Curry and wife, Sandie, of St Albans; aunts, Patti Cobb and husband, Jackie, Susan E. Wilcox and husband, Mark, all of St. Albans, Mary L. McMillion and husband, Roger, of Fort Mill, S.C.; and cousins, Brent Curry of New York, William Curry of South Carolina, Tracey, J.R., A.J., Tyler, and Katie Cobb, Samantha and Walker Wilcox, all of St. Albans. In addition, Kim's memory will be carried on by a great deal of close friends, especially Robin Sylvester, Kendall Nidy, Rachel White, and Herman and Carrie Thaxton. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Duke University Medical Center for all their support and care of Kim while she received treatments. Also, special thanks to Dr. Kiran Patel and staff and to Dusty and LeeAnn Phalen for all of their love and support throughout Kim's fight with breast cancer. A celebration of Kim's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans, with Pastor David Stauffer officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Per Kim's wishes, there will not be a burial service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in honor of Kim to Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center (DCCC) Breast Cancer Research at DUMC 3828, Durham, NC 27710.
